On Saturday, December 24, a drunk driver smashed their vehicle into the entrance of Taqueria Pico de Gallo, destroying many things in the process — gas lines, power lines, appliances, the seating area, and more.
One thing’s for sure and it’s that many other people could’ve been injured, but the iconic restaurant, which Ignacio “Nacho” Delgado opened more than three decades ago, could use a helping hand while they pick up the pieces.
Paulina Delgado and Adan Delgado of Taqueria Pico de Gallo have gotten the process rolling, speaking to the insurance company about remodeling and eventually reopening, but they’ve also set up a GoFundMe. It is the season of giving after all.
Here’s a snippet from Paulina Delgado and the family’s GoFundMe:
“My Tata and Nana opened Taqueria pico de Gallo in 1990. They were the first Taqueria in Tucson. Since then, they have served the South Tucson community with their fresh corn tortillas, exceptional frijoles, and delicious pico de Gallo (fruit cups). With your donation, you are helping repair and help bring back this neighborhood favorite. This restaurant has so many memories and countless hours of hard work. There is so much love and dedication and we would be devastated not to be able to reopen and serve. We thank you for your support and donation.”
83-year-old “Nacho” Delgado still works at the restaurant and it’d be great to see them reopen its newly remodeled doors as soon as possible.
