Teresa’s Mosaic Café, located near Silverbell Road and Ironwood Hill Drive, announced it’ll be temporarily closed for renovations after a fire broke out in the restaurant’s attic space.
According to the Tucson Fire Department, a fire alarm alerted them to the scene just before midnight. Right now, it’s hard to say what caused the flames, which created some pretty significant damage to the dining room, but they’ve got some fire investigators reviewing what could have happened.
The west side Mexican restaurant, which serves up Oaxacan and Sonoran dishes, has been around since 1984 and the family has been operating out of this location for more than 20 years now.
“Teresa’s Mosaic Café has been in business for nearly 40 years, and spent the last 25 years at this location,” Alfonso and Teresa Matias shared online. “We are working to reopen as soon as possible. The Matias Family thanks you for your understanding and continued support. We look forward to you dining with us in the future.”
The long-standing family restaurant showcases some of the family’s favorite recipes including their huevos rancheros. Speaking of which, the popular dish was even featured in an episode of “Throwdown with Bobby Flay.”
Luckily, no injuries came from the fire and all of us here at Tucson Foodie wish them a speedy renovation.
