Earlier this year, the community got word about a new food truck park at the Tanque Verde Swap Meet, but now there is another collaborative gathering on the horizon.
It’s called The Pit food truck park and market is located at 7889 E. 22nd St., which is over on the corner near the legendary Skate Country and Pantano Road. The space is hosting its official Grand Opening from 3 – 7 p.m. on Friday, March 25 with nearly 10 local food trucks.
Amber Donahue, the owner of The Pit, has spruced up the empty corner that used to be an old gas station. Over yonder beyond that, you’ll find an open gathering area called “the backyard”, which is filled with more picnic tables, umbrellas, and plenty of space to chat with others — a total of more than two acres of land.
The empty corner has a purpose now and it’s to help other local food trucks and businesses flourish in an area that they may not have paid attention to. Donahue is leasing the land and is renting out 10 spaces for food trucks that’d like to join in on the fun — at least six have already been called for.
Grand Opening Party
To help get things kickin’, Barrio Brewing Company is paying a visit to the celebration, providing plenty of crafts beers to local eaters, and there’s also going to be live music by Eric Grillo. Dogs are always welcome and the food park is conveniently located by The Loop for all hungry cyclists looking to amp up their energy.
The participating food trucks include Cuppa GoGo, Hermanos Hot Dogs, Fresh Made Mediterranean, Bemo’s, Sweet Coqui, Harris’ Hot Stuff, 420 Tacos, Moncho’s Mexican Food, and Botana’s Remix.
Aside from the diverse display of cuisine, there is a play area for kids to roam around and a vendor market during the weekends. After the Grand Opening, the hours of operation will be 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily.
