This Week at the Farmers Market: Yellow Watermelon, Turnips, Lemon Cucumbers & Microgreens

As September comes to an end, October brings with it the promise of apple picking and pumpkin patches. Fall in Tucson also includes cooler mornings that turn into perfect days to spend the entire afternoon outside.

Community Food Bank Farmers Markets

This week, the Community Food Bank will be hosting conservation scientist, Sergio Avila, from the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum to talk about local and migratory pollinators. Learn how insects help to grow our food. This session will also be held in both English and Spanish.

Santa Cruz River Farmers Market

100 S. Avenida del Convento – Thursday 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.

  • Sleeping Frog Farm is stocked with sweet potatoes, purple top and scarlet turnips, peaches, carrots, leeks, garlic, honey and other seasonal delights.
  • Rattlebox Farms has harvested carrots, chard, kale, collard greens, bok choi, beets, salad mix, butternut squash, arugula and cherry tomatoes. So many options for what can be made from this great variety of produce.
El Pueblo Mobile Market

El Rio Parking lot, Irvington Road and 6th Avenue – Monday 3:00  – 5:00 p.m

Community Food Bank Farm Stand

3003 S. Country Club Road – Tuesday 8:00 a.m – 12:00 p.m

  • Abundant Harvest Cooperative is ready to fill your basket with Verdulagas/purslane, apples, garlic, eggplant, squash, chard, pomegranates, Tohono O’odham yellow watermelon, dried chiltepines, and dried bay leaves.

FoodInRoot

With the changing weather and shorter days, FoodInRoot has changed a few of its markets start and end times. Plaza Palamino shoppers, the new market times are 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For those who visit either the Saturday or Sunday St. Philip’s Plaza market, the times will now be from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. for both markets.

Banner UMC Farmers Market

1501 N. Campbell Road, Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

  • Hand Picked Produce has heirloom carrots, some lemon cucumbers and stripped beets!
  • Papa Mike’s Homemade Jerky makes a delicious and protein packed snack. Stop by for some of the unique flavors this vendor creates. 
St. Philip’s Plaza Farmers Market

4280 N. Campbell Road, Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

  • Anna’s Kitchen will be warming up steamed buns and serving several mouthwatering dishes. Don’t forget to grab a glass of freshly made lemonade!
  • Grandma Sanit’s Biscottini uses a cherished family recipe to create these amazing cookies. Made with extreme love and care, each biscottini is hand cut. Look for fall flavors to be hitting the market!

Heirloom Farmers Markets

Hurray for cooler weather! All three markets are going to be switching to its fall hours. Please note that it starts this week! The times are now from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. for Rillito, Oro Valley and Trail Dust Town. Sleep in a little longer and enjoy the changing season.

Rillito Park (4502 N. 1st Avenue) – Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Amy’s Raw Kitchen is all locally grown and sourced and has been sharing her greens for over five years with the Tucson community. Pick up a variety of micro greens, sprouts or wheat grass to add a little kick to your salad or sandwich this week.
Oro Valley (10901 N. Oracle Road) – Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Luke’s Pizza makes made-to-order fresh pizzas for you to enjoy right there on the spot. Go for a classic flavor like pepperoni or step out of your comfort zone and try a breakfast pizza.
Trail Dust Town (6541 E. Tanque Verde Road) – Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • High Country Nuts takes snacking very seriously. With so many varieties of nuts, dried fruit and seeds, you will be set all week when those late afternoon cravings hit.

Two-time reigning champion @chef_antbanks of @obonsushi is back to defend his title against AJ Mortazavi of @barnyard_az, winner of the 2026 Meet the Chefs competition. Once the secret ingredient is revealed, both chefs will race against the clock to create dishes judged on taste, creativity, and presentation. 

The event begins with the Culinary Experience from 1 to 4 p.m., featuring three hours of food and drink sampling, cooking demos, and classes, followed by the live Iron Chef Competition from 5 to 8 p.m. This is a 21+ event.
