Folks were delighted to see the news on Facebook Sunday morning: Tooley’s Cafe has once again reopened to feed our grumblin’ bellies. At least, that’s how I felt when I saw the news and rushed over to eat breakfast.
The cafe at 299 S. Park Ave. was closed for a couple of months to allow some fine-tuning to the dining room, menu, patio, etc.
Also, the new, larger space next to the dining room is coming along nicely and (once completed) will feature plenty of seating on both the bottom floor and upper loft.
At the moment, there are a few spots available for seating in the bigger space but soon it’ll become a bar/lounge/event space once Patricia Schwabe and crew finish its setup. Meanwhile, head on in for a meal from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Tuesday – Sunday.
Quick History of Tooley’s Cafe
In 1989, Ron Schwabe purchased the building that would become both Peach Properties and Tooley’s Cafe. Tooley’s is the namesake for Ron’s college dog, Tooley. At the time, the cafe was only serving out of the walk-up window found on the western facade facing Park Avenue.
Years passed and the building shut down in 2016. Once the road construction on Park Avenue subsided, and access to the Lost Barrio seemed to get easier again, Patricia decided in October 2021 that it was time to open Tooley’s for business once again.
Today, Tooley’s has its sights set on expansion. We’ll keep you in the loop once the new and much larger space is open for late-night fun, but in the meantime, the cafe is up and running.
