Fresh off of its 60th anniversary, the iconic tiki bar and restaurant has no plans of hanging up the hula skirt anytime soon. Kon Tiki, located near the corner of Broadway Boulevard and Swan Road, continues to be an indoor tropical paradise serving Luau Platters and cocktails in big goblets.
Now, there’s something new to do on Sunday evenings. Move over, “Sunday Scaries” because “Truly Tiki Nights” are here to prolong your weekend every Sunday night from 7 – 11 p.m.
The new weekly feature happens once a week at 4625 E. Broadway Blvd. and includes live DJs playing “vintage exotica, surf, and other tropical tunes.” You’re encouraged to dress for the occasion, too, in your favorite retro tropical attire.

“It’s especially ideal for those who love the traditional, mid-century tiki bar atmosphere,” said Ramsey Borrego of Kon Tiki. “Kon Tiki opened its doors in 1963 and is one of the very few original tiki bars in America — a true vintage gem in Tucson. Even though the view is always tropical, Truly Tiki Nights are a fun way to get the full tiki experience. Come lounge like it’s 1963!”
Also, every Truly Tiki Night features three different vintage cocktails and the regular dining menu is available from 7 – 11 p.m.
“Expect more from Kon Tiki throughout 2024,” Borrego added. “Lots of fun things on the way, new menus, features, and online merch to name a few. See you Sundays!”

Kon Tiki Restaurant & Lounge is located at 4625 E. Broadway Blvd. For more information, visit kontikitucson.com and follow Kon Tiki on Instagram.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
