With the new year comes new opportunities to help the community.
The culinary members of Tucson Originals are reaching out and lending a hand to those dealing with food insecurities by holding a drive.
They’ve teamed up with the Community Foodbank of Southern Arizona in several restaurant locations throughout the city on Friday, February 26.

“I think it is important now more than ever, that we reach out to help our community,” said Tucson Originals board member, food drive organizer, and owner of Ghini’s French Caffe, Coralie Satta. “Even though as small locally owned restaurants we too are suffering, we always have food and not everyone is that lucky. Making space for a donation box at our locations is the least we can do.”
Other participating restaurants include Roccos Little Chicago, Brother John’s Beer, Bourbon & BBQ, Gourmet Girls, Vero Amore, Noble Hops, Firetruck Brewing Company, Chef Chic, Barrio Brewing Company, Fiamme Pizza, and Bisbee Breakfast Club.
“Some of us are also giving incentive thank you gifts to customers who are supporting us in this effort,” said Satta. “At Ghini’s we give a $5 gift certificate to anyone that donates five or more canned goods.”
Stay tuned for more details from all of the restaurants as we get closer to the date. Each location has drop-off boxes for non-expired canned goods and cash donation envelopes that will be collected by the Food Bank on Friday, February 26.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
