A company that originated in Old Pueblo more than 15 years ago — under a different name — and then moved to Idaho, has made its way back to Tucson.
Tucson Tea Company, which now has more than 35 different flavors of loose leaf tea, is showing its appreciation for frontline workers by delivering numerous cups of tea to local hospitals.

Recently, 250 packages were sent to Tucson Medical Center, and more hospitals in the area are now in line to receive a care package full of delicious small-batch blends.

After being regular clients and huge fans of Susan Nunn’s tea, which was coined as Thunder Mountain Tea, Yvette-Marie Margaillan and her husband, Eddie Diaz, gladly took over the business when Nunn announced her departure from the company.
“We both love entrepreneurship and small businesses,” said Yvette-Marie Margaillan. “A few months ago, Susan let us know she was closing the company to focus solely on being a writing instructor, and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bring her small-batch blends back to Tucson.”

Over the last few months, the recipes were perfected and new blends were added, too.
“We have also spent time rebranding everything, including our sustainably sourced packaging,” said Margaillan. “Our biggest effort was to source most of our spices and ingredients from Arizona businesses. So far, we have connected with some great companies and are excited to support them.”
Tucson Tea Company is currently online only, but they’re looking forward to having a physical location “once the pandemic is more under control.”

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
