Sometimes things are worth the wait.

Downtown Tucson’s The Independent Distillery, who took a little more time actually getting to distilling than some had hoped, took Double Gold for their Barrel Rested Gin and Best of Class for the gin category at the 2017 Denver International Spirits Competition in early March.

Unlike conventional gin, the 104 proof Barrel Rest Gin is aged in small oak barrels and features juniper berries, coriander seeds, cardamom pods, angelica root, orris root, licorice root, lemon, rose, and lavender in its list of botanicals.

The double blind competition is based on a 100 point scale with judges rating spirits by price categories.

The Independent Distillery is located at 33 S. Arizona Ave. For more information, call (520) 284-7334 or visit theindependentdistillery.com.
