This holiday season, Casino Del Sol is building a life-size gingerbread house in its hotel lobby from completely edible ingredients, and the unveiling will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, November 26.
Casino Del Sol’s executive chef Ryan Clark and executive pastry chef Gina Skelton have teamed up to make this thing massive with walls up to 11-feet tall. The gingerbread house’s theme is based on Disney’s “Coco,” so it’s going to be rich with bright colors, sugar skulls, and other festive elements.

The Pascua Yaqui Tribal youth group are also helping during the decoration process.
“This is quite an ambitious project, and by far the largest dessert I’ve made in my career thus far,” said Casino Del Sol’s Executive Chef Ryan Clark. “I’m eager for the community to see the final product and experience the holiday season come to life in a special way at Casino Del Sol.”
If you get there quick, the first 100 guests are getting free house-made gingersnap cookies and warm apple cider.
There’s much more happening after its big reveal. Throughout the holiday season, the gingerbread house will be on display for all to take a gander at from November 26 – January 2.
Also, from the day of the unveiling till Friday, December 21, Casino Del Sol will be collecting holiday gift donations for children in need, benefiting Casa de los Niños and Tribal Foster Care.
Casino Del Sol is located at 5655 W. Valencia Rd. and the gingerbread house will be located inside the lobby. For more information, visit casinodelsol.com.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
