The Parish at 6453 N Oracle Rd. is a foodie destination in Tucson’s dining scene — Chef Travis Peters and the team are pros at combining the charm of Southern comfort bites with Southwest flavors.
They’ve been around for more than a decade now, too! You’re in for a treat if you’ve never eaten at The Parish, or even if it’s been a while since you’ve stopped by. Jambalaya, shrimp and grits, Southern fried chicken, hushpuppies, po’boy sandwiches, and more.
Also, once a year, the team hosts a big Mardi Gras bash — roasting an entire alligator over an open fire paired with a crawfish boil, Cajun sampler plates, and King Cake.

However, during the summer, The Parish offers deals and special menus.
There’s a “screamin’ takeout deal” you need to get in on pronto. They’re calling it a “three-part harmony” and it’s $15 each, available to go from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Tuesday – Friday throughout the scorching summer months.
$15 Summer Lunch Special
- Your choice of any half Po’Boy on their menu
- Salad or chips as a side
- Substitute your side for hushpuppies ($1 extra) or gumbo or red beans ($2 extra)
- Tea or Soda
Again, that deal is available for takeout only from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Tuesday – Friday. The deal is happening now until the foreseeable future — until the end of the summer season. In other words, order a to-go meal soon before the deal ends.
Also, happening this summer: new summer cocktails.
Each of the restaurant’s new cocktails is “expertly crafted to provide the perfect balance of flavors, ensuring a delightful escape from the scorching sun.” In other words, get ’em while they’re available!

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
