Desert Drifter Coffee will open three new locations across the Tucson area in the next few months, marking a rapid expansion for the local brand.
First, the company will open its Oro Valley café on April 24, followed by a Broadway Boulevard location in May and a Grant Road shop in June.
Previously, Desert Drifter launched its first Tucson location on Speedway Boulevard in October 2025, introducing its “second-and-a-half wave” concept to the city.
Initially, founder Eddy Yunkherr built Desert Drifter after more than 15 years in the coffee industry. He started as a teenage barista and later helped open dozens of coffee shops across the country.
Then, he created Desert Drifter to prioritize people over profits and restore what he saw as missing in corporate coffee culture.
“Our mission is simple: bring back the old-school values of community, authenticity, and care,” Yunkherr said in a prior interview.
Yunkherr moved to Tucson in 2020 and quickly embraced the city’s food scene and culture. That connection shaped the brand’s identity as a locally rooted concept rather than a chain.
Desert Drifter integrates local collaboration into its core business model. The company partners with Tucson-based producers such as Presta Coffee Roasters, Tucson Chocolate Factory, and Maya Tea Company.
As a result, the menu features drinks and food items that reflect Tucson’s culinary landscape. Signature offerings include specialty mochas, smoothies, and baked goods sourced from local vendors.
Moreover, the brand positions itself between traditional drive-thru coffee and high-end specialty cafés. This approach combines accessibility with quality, aiming to serve a broad audience.
Next, Desert Drifter will open its Oro Valley café from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 24 at 10335 N. La Cañada Dr.
Then, the Broadway Boulevard location aims to open around May 9 at 3955 E. Broadway Blvd. A third café at Grant and Swan roads plans to open in June.
Earlier, the Speedway location introduced Desert Drifter’s emphasis on community engagement, local sourcing, and employee investment. The shop also features local art and community-driven initiatives such as charitable coffee programs.
As a result, the company has built early momentum within Tucson’s competitive coffee scene. The new locations reflect both demand and a long-term growth plan.
