The Tucson Michelada Challenge is heading back to the Tucson Convention Center from 6 – 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 5.
For those scratching their heads about what a Michelada is, it’s like a Mexican Bloody Mary with beer instead of vodka.
There’s even a General involved in the existence of the Michelada.
During the Mexican Revolution of 1910, General Michel would order the concoction at the bar, and it’s been a popular ever since.
General admission is $25, which includes samples of each contestant’s creation, and a ballot to vote for their favorite. VIP tickets are $65, which also include a souvenir pint glass, designated seating area close to the stage, a $10 food voucher, and a server.
Competing bartenders will be given the beer, and everything else will be supplied by the bartenders’ respective restaurants, so prepare to see some adventurous entries.

Judges also have a say in the outcome, as a judging panel of local restaurant chefs are added to the mix.
