VIDEO: Al Pastor, Rojitos & MORE Baja-inspired eats at Ensenada Street Food

Jul 13, 20211 min read

In this third feature video of Tucson’s taquerias (check out the rest on the Tucson Foodie YouTube channel), I visited Ensenada Street Food on South Park Avenue.

Ensenada Street Food is an all women owned business. We published an extended feature on Ensenada Street Food in 2019.

For this visit, I tried the Ensenada Deluxe Plate, as recommended by Rachel Alvarez, daughter and partner of owner Magdalena Alvarez. The plate includes four tacos: carne asada, al pastor, fish taco, and a rojito.

The al pastor, a guest favorite, is heavily inspired by the traditional method, which involves a rotating spit, or trompo topped with pineapple and other ingredients.

The fish taco perfectly exemplified what a Baja style fish taco should be, while the rojito (ESF’s name for a quesabirria taco) was large and stuffed with tender birria.

Check out the full video to see it all in action. And if you go – beware the red salsa!

Ensenada Street Food is located at 1602 S Park Ave and open Tuesday through Saturday from 1 p.m. – 9 p.m.

An overnight escape just 45 minutes from Tucson 🌞

Spend the evening at @tubacgolfresortandspa, enjoy dinner, wake up to breakfast, and be back in Tucson by late morning, or extend your stay and make a weekend of it. The Tucson Foodie team had such a great time during our stay. Dinner and breakfast at Stables Ranch Grille were impressive and vegan-friendly, and the entire staff was incredibly warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Thank you for showing us around, @civilwines!

Established as a Spanish presidio in 1752, Tubac was one of the earliest European settlements in what is now Arizona and served as an important military outpost during Spanish colonization. And now, you can experience it for yourself.

@Seiscantina has permanently closed its Joesler Village location at 1765 E. River Rd., the Muñoz family announced today.

Three Seis Kitchen locations remain open at Tanque Verde Road, Oro Valley, and Mercado San Agustín. The family says guests can still find their favorite dishes and familiar faces at the remaining locations.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share some bittersweet news. After much reflection, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close our Joesler Village newly rebranded Cantina Location. Saying goodbye to the regular guests who became faces we looked forward to seeing every week, we are truly sorry that we cannot continue serving you here. You turned a simple dining room into a vibrant community gathering place, and for that, we will be forever grateful.”
