Seis Cantina permanently closes its Joesler Village location

Sep 24, 20262 min read

Seis Cantina has permanently closed its Joesler Village location at 1765 E. River Rd., the Muñoz family announced on Instagram earlier today. The closure comes just three months after the family rebranded the space from Seis Kitchen to the quick-serve cantina format in June 2026. Three Seis Kitchen locations remain open: Tanque Verde Road, Oro Valley, and Mercado San Agustín.

"It is with heavy hearts that we share some bittersweet news," wrote owners Jake and Erika Muñoz in their Instagram statement Thursday afternoon. "After much reflection, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close our Joesler Village newly rebranded Cantina Location."

A short run under a new name

The River Road address had housed a Seis Kitchen since the brand's brick-and-mortar expansion brought it to Joesler Village. In June 2026, the Muñoz family rebranded the location as Seis Cantina, shifting from the full Seis Kitchen menu to a quick-serve taquería format centered on tacos, burros, nachos, fresh salsa bars, cervezas, and margaritas. The concept drew from the family's food truck beginnings, which date to 2012 in Tucson.

At the time of the rebrand, the family said the cantina concept reconnected them with their origins. "This concept really takes us back to where Seis began," they said in June. "Before the restaurants, before the growth, there was a food truck and a passion for sharing the flavors we grew up with." The Joesler Village experiment lasted roughly 90 days before the family made the decision to close.

Gratitude, and a path forward

The closure announcement struck a tone of warmth toward the neighborhood that welcomed the concept.

"Saying goodbye to the regular guests who became faces we looked forward to seeing every week, we are truly sorry that we cannot continue serving you here," the Muñoz family wrote. "You turned a simple dining room into a vibrant community gathering place, and for that, we will be forever grateful."

The family directed guests to the three remaining Seis Kitchen locations. "Your favorite dishes and many of the familiar faces you know and love will be there waiting for you," they wrote.

Seis Kitchen's Oro Valley location on Oracle Road recently transitioned to a full-service dining experience, with servers and tableside hospitality replacing the brand's original counter-service format. The Tanque Verde Road location, which opened in May 2025 as the brand's fourth restaurant, remains open as a full Seis Kitchen.

On a hierarchical tier list of comfort food, mac and cheese ranks among the top. An ideal mac and cheese blends rich creaminess with a kiss of crunch. A velvety cheese sauce coats every noodle without being lumpy or gloppy. Chefs use blend of artisanal cheeses to create depth and sharpness. Roasted poblano, salty cured meat, and crunchy breadcrumbs add texture and complexity without overwhelming the dish. The right pasta shape, such as cavatappi or shells, helps the sauce adhere better than standard elbow macaroni and offers a more toothsome bite.
