Seis Kitchen reinvents Joesler Village location as Seis Cantina

The Muñoz family, founders of Tucson’s Seis Kitchen, has launched a new concept at their Joesler Village location. Seis Cantina now occupies the River Road space, trading the full Seis Kitchen menu for a quick-serve taquería experience rooted in Sonoran street food tradition. The concept draws directly from the family’s food truck beginnings, which date back to 2012.

What is Seis Cantina?

Seis Cantina centers on tacos, burros, nachos, fresh salsa bars, cervezas, and margaritas served in a lively, casual setting. The menu highlights Sonoran staples, including smoky carne asada, pollo asado, and carnitas. Guests can customize their meals at a salsa and toppings bar stocked with house-made salsas and Sonoran-style accompaniments.

The concept draws from the authentic taquerías and cantinas found throughout Northern Mexico and Southern Arizona. Upbeat music and TVs set the atmosphere, and affordable à la carte pricing keeps the experience accessible. The family also hinted at an iconic Sonoran street food item making its way onto the menu soon, though they have not yet named it.

Back to the food truck roots

“This concept really takes us back to where Seis began,” the Muñoz family said in a press release. “Before the restaurants, before the growth, there was a food truck and a passion for sharing the flavors we grew up with. Seis Cantina is our way of reconnecting with those roots while creating something exciting, approachable, and full of energy for our community.”

Seis Kitchen launched its fourth location on Tanque Verde Road in May 2025, continuing the brand’s steady expansion across Tucson. Seis Cantina focuses on refining rather than expanding; the Joesler Village space now reflects the brand’s earliest identity more closely than any of its other restaurants.

Full-service dining comes to Oro Valley

Alongside the Seis Cantina launch, the Muñoz family announced a major change at their Oro Valley location on Oracle Road. Beginning May 18, that restaurant transitioned to a full-service dining experience. Guests no longer order at a counter. Instead, a host seats them, and servers guide them through the full menu, bring additional rounds of drinks, and allow diners to settle in against the backdrop of Pusch Ridge.

“Guests have been asking for this experience for a long time, and we’re incredibly excited to finally bring it to Oro Valley,” the Muñoz family said. “It’s still the same Seis everyone knows and loves — the same full menu, the same amazing team, the same warm hospitality — just with an elevated level of service that allows guests to kick back and enjoy their experience even more.”

Seis Kitchen locations remain open

Guests who prefer the original Seis Kitchen format can still find it at three Tucson-area locations: Mercado San Agustín, Oro Valley on Oracle Road, and Tanque Verde Road on the east side. The Joesler Village address now operates exclusively as Seis Cantina.

The Muñoz family acknowledged the emotional weight of change for longtime guests.

“We know change can be bittersweet, and we’re incredibly grateful for the trust our guests have placed in us over the years,” they said. “We’re excited to invite everyone into these new experiences and hope they’ll allow us the opportunity to continue growing alongside the Tucson community.”
