Whether it be sipping on a local beer, eating a slice of pizza, or partaking in one of the many pop-up events, the Metal Arts Village is almost always hoppin’ with locals. Many of the events hosted at Tucson Hop Shop contribute to the community in some way or form, much like the upcoming 520 Day event they’ve got in the works with the Boys & Girls Club of Tucson.
In the last few months, something fresh has been coming out of Hop Shop’s metaphorical oven — local bakery pop-ups.

“We love supporting other small, local businesses and helping them grow,” said Jessie Mance of Tucson Hop Shop. “We’ve also really enjoyed getting to know the awesome bakers themselves. Our customers love a sweet treat with their beer or wine, and frankly, nothing pairs with carbs quite like more carbs.”
Each of the bakery pop-ups at 3230 N. Dodge Blvd. features a rotating schedule of local bakers. The upcoming lineup includes yummy and gooey goodies from Cute & Classy Krispies, Janeé Bakes (bundt cakes, brownies, cookies, and more), Kim’s Confections, whose treats have a vintage feel with a definite modern take, and the decadent doughnuts and pastries of Cal’s Bakeshop.
They’ve already hosted a few of these pop-ups, and a schedule of upcoming events can be found online, but keep reading to see which bakers are setting up shop soon.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
