Here’s a look back at what the Tucson Foodie team enjoyed during April!
Also, not only are these reminders of the dishes we ate, but they can also be a guide for your own decisions on what to eat here in Tucson.
Addie Ibarra
Cafe Francais
7831 E. Wrightstown Rd. #113
Literally any of the pastries at Cafe Francais are worth the drive. The croissants are perfectly laminated and the baguettes had a light and airy interior. Not pictured is the ham and Swiss croissant that I immediately devoured.

Guillermo’s Double L
1830 S. Fourth Ave.
The fried ice cream at Guillermo’s is absolutely where it’s at. I had the menudo and chicken flautas and finished string with this dessert. It’s the perfect way to end a meal.

Nate’s Italian Kitchen
7074 E. Golf Links Rd.
My husband and I hosted a watch party for the Sopranos finale — yeah I know we’re about 15 years late. We ordered in from Nate’s Italian Kitchen and it was the best decision we made. We ordered the chicken parm and the ziti and included cannolis for good measure. Best value for money!

Chrissy Mance
Bottega Michelangelo
420 W. Magee Rd.
The Yellow Beet Salad at Bottega Michelangelo! I like the addition of pistachios for a crunchy texture. Best enjoyed with their housemade bread and the delicious oil (olive, balsamic, garlic, and some spicy heat).

Ghini’s French Caffe
1803 E. Prince Rd.
Ghini’s French Caffe serves up a great brunch. I particularly enjoyed the Omelette du Soleil, a garlicky herby frittata-style egg dish.

Kevin Thomas
Baja Mar Seafood Market & Restaurant
3541 S. 12th Ave.
I had two carne asada tacos and an adobada taco at Baja Mar. I also got some toritos which I had never had before. Bacon-wrapped peppers stuffed with shrimp and cream cheese. So good!

Maico Restaurant
835 E. 22nd St.
Carne Asada Burrito from Maico Restaurant!

Matt Sterner
Ciao Down & Tucson Hop Shop
3230 N. Dodge Blvd.
Tres Amigos pizza from Ciao Down — enjoyed on Tucson Hop Shop’s beautiful patio.

Whole Slvce Pizza
160 S. Avenida del Convento
One of my favorite slices in town! It’s called the 4. and is tomato sauce, salami, Calabrian chili, red onion, ricotta, parmesan.

Rita Connelly
Redbird Scratch Kitchen + Bar
6444 N. Oracle Rd.
I’ve become addicted to the street corn at Redbird. And that Crispy Nashville-Arizona Chicken sandwich was outstanding. A huge piece of chicken breast fried to a fabulous crunch.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
