US Fries is back open. Just kidding.
But the space at 340 N. 4th Ave. already has a poutine successor with breakfast foods: The Crackhouse.
Don’t be alarmed, as it’s not a space for addictive recreational drugs. As indicated in its logo, the name is a play on words involved with cracking open an egg.
“Ninety-nine of people laugh immediately upon hearing the name,” said Jon Sutton, landlord of the space and owner. “The other one percent are taken back with it.”
The Crackhouse decided to keep poutine because the demand is still there, Sutton said — poutine was a success with the Tucson High Magnet School students and weekend late night crowd. The menu of breakfast foods is also in the works, with plans for weekend brunch in the future.
While the restaurant isn’t officially open yet, they are currently open with limited hours: 2 – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 p.m. – 3 a.m. Thursday through Saturday. (09/22/2017 note: readers have reported that they have not been consistent with the hours as provided and there’s no phone number to confirm on demand, so visit at your own risk.)
The Crackhouse will be located at 340 N. 4th Ave. No online presence exists yet for The Crackhouse – keep up with Historic Fourth Avenue in the meantime.
