Sometimes a little liquid courage is all you need in order to show the slightest bit of bravery. Personally, all it takes is a sip of a cold local craft beer (or a PBR) and I’m practically unstoppable. However, I’ll likely need a stronger cocktail to gather enough endurance to visit this event.
On Thursday, May 11 and Friday, May 12, an immersive cocktail experience is coming to Trail Dust Town, located at 6541 E. Tanque Verde Rd. On both nights, The Haunted Tavern will be set up inside the Savoy Opera House.

It’s a limited-time experience because The Haunted Tavern is a spooky bar that’s hopping from town to town, setting up inside “some of the most haunted places in the world.” Tucson is getting a taste of the fun at the end of the tour after they travel through cities like Denver, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City.
Perhaps they’re saving the spookiest city for last.
“The Haunted Tavern is a dark chilling cocktail experience run by the decedents of Ichabod Crane,” the scary attraction shared. “The tavern keeper will guide guests through a four-part interactive cocktail journey while sharing chilling and dark tales of his ancestor’s past and the ghost of the City. Beware of the surprises of the night and of course, the guests that never left.”

Inside the tavern, you’ll be served four ghostly cocktails while the Tavern Keeper shares the dark and chilling stories of the tavern’s past. Pay attention because you’ll learn all about the “dark tales that haunt the venue.”
Tickets, which oughta sell quickly, are $45 per person and include the four craft cocktails, scary experiences, and educational tales.
Again, this interactive experience is in Tucson on Thursday, May 11 and Friday, May 12.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
