Jun 19, 20232 min read

Just in time for Pride Month, HighWire is hosting a Drag Brunch on Sunday, June 25. The four-hour event is from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. — showtime is at 11 a.m. so be sure to get there early.

The downtown restaurant will be serving a brunch buffet featuring a carving station, custom omelets, eggs benedict, biscuits and gravy, a pastry and dessert bar, and so much more. Plus, the buffet includes iced tea, hot coffee, and soft drinks. Smirnoff is also joining in on the fun and will be offering specials along with HighWire’s creative mimosas and their popular Pearl Shots.

The lineup of performers on Sunday, June 25 includes Allonna Dee, Onika, Beatrix, Trey, Bianca, and Sammy.

The event is for those 21 years and older and tickets are $45 per person and $450 for a table, which seats up to 10 people. You’ll want to buy your tickets sooner than later because it has been known to sell out quickly.

The cost of your ticket includes a guaranteed seat, a first-class brunch buffet, a complimentary mimosa flight at each table, and a donation to the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF).

More About the Performers:
  • Allonna Dee – The host who does the most, a Tucson native who has been doing drag for six years. She is a high-energy performer who takes great pride in being an activist, and an event hostess.
  • Onika Grande – Known as “The Vixen of Vogue” not many can do what this performer can. She is ready to bring the heat and have a good time with you at brunch.
  • Trey – The Bearded Beauty of Phoenix, Trey is known for their vocals, unique take on performances, and creating inclusive experiences for all. You do not want to miss what she is bringing only to Highwire’s Drag Brunch.
  • Bianca Difonsi – The Latin Dynamite herself, Bianca specializes in Latin impersonations as well as sparkling brighter than the sun. You can find this diva making the room laugh and dance alongside her Latin song choices!
  • Sammy Beaux – Tall, Beautiful, and a dancer? Sammy is a triple threat in all the best ways! She is that girl! Make sure to catch her around town as she hosts her variety show “The PlayBeaux Bunny.”
  • Beatrix Bella Rouge – A Phoenix native, she captured the title of IBT’s Drag Race winner and gained visibility from the one and only Alaska 5000. She is a trained dancer and has all of the throwbacks that will keep the nostalgia flowing.

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.

Opened in 2023, @kabulcorner is Tucson’s only Afghan restaurant, created to provide jobs, community, and a taste of home for Afghan families who made Tucson their new home.

Today, Sediq Haidari and his family serve traditional Afghan dishes like bolani, mantou, Kabuli palaw, fresh tandoori naan, and house-made chaka, while preserving recipes and traditions rooted in Afghanistan’s rich history.

With its warm hospitality, authentic food, and strong sense of community, Kabul Corner has become a little piece of home in the Sonoran Desert. ❤️

“These dishes are famous not only in Afghanistan, but in neighboring countries like Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Iran, and even parts of China. It sits right between Indian and Arabic food.” Sediq Haidari
