HUB Ice Cream is taking its vintage ice cream truck to the streets of Tucson for an “a la road trip” on Saturday, June 5 and Saturday, June 12.
“We are so excited to formally introduce Tucson to our vintage Model-T ice cream truck,” said Kristel Johnson, HUB Ice Cream’s General Manager. “I have memories as a kid of running out to get a sweet treat from the ice cream truck. Those nostalgic moments stand out in my mind and are really special.”

The tour is going to be pretty sweet, too, with an opportunity to score yourself a free scoop of ice cream.
If that’s your cup of tea — or cup of pistachio ice cream — all you need to do is take a photo of yourself with the truck and share it on social media. Additionally, you’ll need to tag @HUBIceCream in order to get the freebie, which can be redeemed at downtown’s HUB Ice Cream Parlor until Wednesday, June 30.
“Our goal is to provide that memorable experience for others through the delicious, high-quality ice cream served out of our charming, vintage truck,” said Johnson.

“With Tucson in the beginning stages of opening back up, we want to give people a tasty option for their outdoor events,” says Johnson. “Especially with summer coming up, what is better on a hot day than some refreshingly cool ice cream?”

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
