Good times are right around the corner as the Sand-Reckoner Vineyards tasting room celebrates three years.
Owners and couple Sarah and Rob Hammelman have been flourishing the soil in Willcox, Arizona since 1997, but as their business expanded they decided to share the flavors in Tucson with a tasting room.
That was three years ago and today the tasting room in the Warehouse Arts District continues to pour their newest wines. Speaking of new wine, Sand-Reckoner is releasing two new flavors during the anniversary celebration.
The first is the 2015 Estate Sagrantino and its unique story.
Sarah and Rob created the wine using the first vines they planted on the vineyard. Also, the day the new plants met the soil was on their son Levi’s one month birthday, creating a unique tribute to their youngest child.
The process didn’t stop there, though. The 2015 Estate Sagrantino spent two years in a barrel and then another two in bottles. It’s a tannic wine due to the long aging process and it’s limited to just six cases at the tasting room. In other words, get there quickly on the day of the anniversary to ensure you get to try a glass.

Secondly, Sand-Reckoner will be releasing a vintage 2016 Sangiovese, which was made using grapes from the Chiricahua Ranch Vineyards in Willcox, aged in puncheons. In each glass of the Sangiovese, you’ll be greeted with the aromatics of an Italian essence that’s waiting to be paired with Italian meats and cheeses.
You read that correctly. Sand-Reckoner will be offering charcuterie boards with their special wine flights—Italian varietals you don’t normally find at the tasting room. The space has plenty of standing room and comfy seats, bar stools, and benches—come one, come all.
Local musician Eb Eberlein will be providing the tunes from 6 – 9 p.m.
