Food & Wine Magazine Catches Wind of Mayor’s Watermelon Eegee’s Plea

While you might associate Food & Wine magazine with only the upper echelons of the foodosphere, you’d be mistaken.

Tucson fast food favorite Eegee’s found itself with plenty o’ press this week when a) the mayor requested the Watermelon flavor of the month be released early; b) the Arizona Daily Star picked up the story; and c) Food & Wine picked up the AZDS story.

From the Food & Wine article, “as temperatures in the city approach record highs and the National Weather Service begins to issue alarming “Excessive Weather Warnings” for the area, he has something even more important to deal with: Making sure his citizens are armed and ready for the heat with refreshing, icy-cold drinks.”

If all this slush-talk has you craving Watermelon Eegee’s more than you thought you were, good luck. Limited amounts were quickly whipped up and sent to accommodate the earnest request but as for how long those supplies will last, reports on social media are hinting that stores have already run out.
