Whether you grew up in Tucson or have only lived here for a few months, you oughta be aware of the abundance of sweet, sour, and spicy candy found all around town. Even better, it’s likely you’re familiar with the local sweet, sour, and spicy candy supplier Dirty T Tamarindo since it’s now available in more than 70 shops in Tucson — gas stations, ice cream shops, local markets, etc.
It’s all about to get even sweeter!
Last week, Alana SolĂs, owner of Dirty T Tamarindo, announced that its family-operated business is expanding into a brick-and-mortar at 1211 W. Saint Mary’s Rd. The spot in the Menlo Plaza Shopping Center, which used to be a former barber supply shop, is hosting its official grand opening on Saturday, August 26.
With inspiration from SolĂs’ traditional family recipes, Dirty T Tamarindo takes pride in its authentic recipes dating back to the 1980s out of Hermosillo, Sonora.
“I want to start off by thanking all of you for accepting my tia’s authentic homemade chamoy recipe,” SolĂs shared on Instagram. “For providing myself, along with my family, the opportunity to grow in this community that we love so much. As an LGTBQ+ Latina with immigrant parents, this is a dream come true. Proud to say I’m from Tucson and I can’t wait to provide the barrio with more authentic Mexican treats.”
The grand opening celebration will be from 5 – 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 26. Right now, they’re currently looking for more sponsors and vendors to participate in the event, which will be full of giveaways, mariachis, and more.
Stay tuned for more updates on the grand opening and in the meantime, scope out the sweet snacks around town, order for pickup at the 2717 S. Sixth Ave. warehouse, or order plenty for the whole family online.
