Sonoran Restaurant Week kicks off with a tasting party at The Treasury 1929

Aug 3, 20262 min read

Tucson's biggest culinary week of the year starts with a celebration befitting the city's UNESCO City of Gastronomy title. Tucson Foodie hosts the Sonoran Restaurant Week Kickoff Party at The Treasury 1929 on 5 p.m.-8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 31. The event opens Sonoran Restaurant Week with tastings, cocktails, and live music across three floors of one of downtown Tucson's most historic venues.

Guests get full access to The Treasury 1929's three levels, each set with ambient lighting and space to mingle. A live DJ keeps the energy going throughout the evening, and photo booths give attendees a way to capture the night. The kickoff party sets the tone for a week that highlights the restaurants driving Tucson's food scene forward.

What to expect at the Sonoran Restaurant Week kickoff

Chefs from participating Sonoran Restaurant Week restaurants prepare tasting stations for the evening. The Treasury 1929's own culinary team also runs a dedicated station, giving guests a preview of the venue's kitchen alongside the week's other participants. Together, the stations offer a broad sample of the flavors that define Sonoran Restaurant Week.

Every ticket includes two signature cocktails. Mixologists craft the drinks using spirits from the week's official sponsors, Don Julio Tequila and Rombauer Vineyards, with beverage service provided by Breakthru Beverage. The cocktail program rounds out a tasting experience built around both food and drink.

A historic venue hosts the celebration

The Treasury 1929 serves as the official host sponsor for the kickoff party. Consequently, guests get access to a venue known for its historic character and its role in downtown Tucson's dining and event scene. The Treasury 1929's culinary staff, bartenders, and service team work together to run the evening.

When @ginzatucson opened in 2008, it became the first restaurant in Tucson to feature an izakaya style menu, bringing Japan’s popular shareable dining experience to the city. Today, it’s still the only restaurant in town with a dedicated izakaya menu, along with one of Tucson’s largest curated selections of sake, Japanese beer, and shochu.

In 2018, the couple expanded again with @raijinramen, Tucson’s first restaurant dedicated entirely to ramen. Known for its rich tonkotsu broths and seasonal specialties, Raijin helped pave the way for the city’s growing ramen scene.

From fresh fish flown in daily from Japan and California to chef’s choice omakase experiences, Ginza continues to showcase authentic Japanese cuisine while Jun and Diana regularly travel to Japan to bring back the latest culinary trends.
