If you haven’t had a chance to check out Elvira’s in downtown Tucson, this might be the incentive you’ve been waiting for. The upscale Latin restaurant, which hails from an original and still existing location in Tubac, has settled into its prime spot in the heart of downtown and found its stride.

With the recent addition of former Hotel Congress chef Michael Byrer and Beverage Director Erik Harding – who transitioned recently from Casino del Sol – Elvira’s has cemented in place solid food and beverage leadership.

But let’s talk food.

Remember The Dish? Similar to the mussels and glass of wine special that the former foodie favorite offered every Wednesday before shutting the doors permanently, Elvira’s is upping the ante with three options for bar patrons. And bar patrons means the seats at the communal marble tables near the front of the bar as well as the bar itself.

Let’s start with the award-worthy, Barcelona street food-inspired Bocadillo Hamburguesa, which is wrapped in flatbread with tomato, manchego, and lemon aioli. Served with fingerling potatoes and a peanut chile de arbol salsa, this is a seriously original dish and unlike any burger you’ve ever tried. (Unless you frequent Barcelona often.)

The second option is the Argentina-inspired Cocina Steak, which is topped with red and green chimichurri and served with grilled seasonal vegetables, fingerling potatoes, and small house salad. It’s a six-ounce top sirloin cut, cooked to preferred temperature and an unofficial contender for best summer steak deal in town, too.

Lastly, and a true homage to The Dish, guests can opt for Elvira’s Baja-Med Mussels. These have a little bit of a kick, thanks to hot Spanish chorizo, Serrano peppers, and chile caribe. Still true to the classic preparation, these PEI mussels, are served in a white wine butter garlic broth along with grilled baguette, grilled tomato, grilled lemon, and cilantro.

The full dinner menu is also available at the bar, however the bar specials are not available in the dining room.

Each entree is served with a choice of red or white wine selected by experienced sommelier and general manager Thomas Spooner. Beer drinkers can choose any draft beer.

The bar specials are available Tuesday through Thursday from 4-9 p.m.

Elvira’s is located at 256 E. Congress St and can be reached at (520) 499-2302. For more information, visit Elvira’s on Facebook.
