Calling All Bakers!

We are planning a Cake Walk for September 4th to coincide with the return of our popular Great British Bake Off Watch Party! If you’re a fan of the show, you may know that typically the first week of Bake Off is Cake Week. We thought it would be fun to do a collaborative event with all the bakeries/ bakers* in town to kick it off!

Here’s what we’re thinking:
🎂 Bakers/Bakeries* build a cake completely of their choosing to donate to the event.
🎂 The cakes are displayed for a Cake Walk, where guests can view the cakes, vote on their favorites and play cake bingo!
🎂 Tasting tickets will be available for guests to purchase to sample the cakes and be entered into a raffle to win a cake donated by Bakery by Ren.
🎂 All of the money generated by the Cake Walk will be put into a donation fund.
🎂 The winning bakeries of the Cake Walk will be able to donate their portion of the fund to a charity of choice.
🎂 We all watch the first episode of this season’s Bake Off together!

Sound like something you or someone you know would be interested in? Send us your contact info and we can get started. 😎

Bakery entries into the Cake Walk will be CLOSED Friday, 8/21, to allow for time to plan and promote the event on 9/4.

*All entries for bakers/bakeries must have at least a cottage kitchen license to participate.

Kabul Corner is more than a restaurant.❤️

Opened in 2023, Tucson’s only Afghan restaurant was created to provide jobs, community, and a taste of home for Afghan families who made Tucson their new home.

Today, Sediq Haidari and his family serve traditional Afghan dishes like bolani, mantou, Kabuli palaw, fresh tandoori naan, and house-made chaka, while preserving recipes and traditions rooted in Afghanistan’s rich history.

With its warm hospitality, authentic food, and strong sense of community, Kabul Corner has become more than a restaurant. It’s a little piece of home in the Sonoran Desert.

“These dishes are famous not only in Afghanistan, but in neighboring countries like Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Iran, and even parts of China. It sits right between Indian and Arabic food.” Sediq Haidari

Chilaquiles bring together crispy tortilla chips, salsa, eggs, and cheese in one skillet. Tucson cooks have made the dish their own, and each restaurant adds a different twist. Some go heavy on red or green sauce, others split the two, and many top the plate with a fried or poached egg. From a downtown café to a Marana staple, here are the best spots in town to order chilaquiles.
