HighWire Cocktail Factory: Shake Things Up at This Hands-on Mixology Event

Sep 13, 20232 min read

Mark your calendars for an event that’s bound to shake up your cocktail game.

The HighWire Cocktail Factory is going down on September 30, from 5 – 8 p.m., and it promises to be an evening of hands-on mixology like you’ve never seen before.

Your ticket to this one-of-a-kind event will include a tasty Welcome Cocktail and the chance to get creative as you explore four hibachi-style cocktail stations. And what’s a solid cocktail without some food to pair with it? Fear not, because Bailey’s Artisan Pizza will be on-site, serving up gourmet pizzas that will perfectly complement your crafted libations.

Led by the experienced crew of HighWire bartenders, the Cocktail Factory is basically a self-paced tour through four distinct cocktail stations, each offering a unique experience and a chance to create a cocktail masterpiece all your own.

Tickets are $65 per person. If you’re a Foodie Club member, check the Tucson Foodie App for a special offer.

Cocktail Stations

The Smoked Cocktail Station

At the Smoked Cocktail Station, you’ll step into a world of smoky, complex flavors as you start by selecting your preferred base spirit — whether it’s bourbon, rye, mezcal, or aged rum — and then dive into the array of bitters, woods, and sugars. With guidance from the experts, you’ll craft your own one-of-a-kind smoked cocktail. It’s a sensory journey you won’t soon forget.

The Contortionist Station

Here, you’ll learn the art of one of HighWire’s signature cocktails. The best part? You get to choose your cotton candy flavor and pop rocks to infuse a burst of excitement into this martini-style concoction. It’s a delicious balancing act of taste and texture.

The Mad Hatter Station

The Mad Hatter Station is where the magic happens. Ever tried an egg white whiskey sour with a twist of magic berry? If not, now’s your chance. Learn the secrets of creating this whimsical and flavor-packed cocktail. And yes, adding that optional egg white is highly recommended for an extra layer of delight.

The Create-Your-Own-Cocktail Station

For the adventurous souls and creative spirits, the Create Your Own Cocktail Station is where you can let your imagination run wild. Choose your base spirit and ingredients, and let the mixologist guide you through the process of creating your very own signature cocktail. It’s a chance to express your unique taste preferences and become a mixologist in your own right.

Whether you’re a seasoned mixologist or just eager to try something new, this event promises an evening of fun and flavor where you get to be the master mixologist. It’s not just a night out; it’s a memorable journey into the world of innovative cocktails paired with craft pizza in the playful atmosphere that HighWire delivers.

Reserve your spot and get ready to shake, stir, and sip your night away.

HighWire Tucson is located at 30 S. Arizona Ave. For more information on the event, visit eventbrite.com.

IOU Sushi III has closed. The all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant on North Oracle Road announced the news on Facebook after about 10 years in Tucson. “This is the hardest post I’ve had to write,” the owners said. The post continued, “we have met some great friends who have become family to us.” Tucson Foodie first visited the restaurant in 2017, when it operated as IOU Sushi IV.

Anne Rysdale built @sheltercocktaillounge in 1961 with concrete walls, lava rock, and Cold War nerves. Today, owners Pam Santangelo and Kevin Breutzmann keep the Tucson bar exactly as regulars remember it. Inside, martinis share space with JFK memorabilia, a vintage atomic chandelier, and a suit of armor named Charlie. “Tucson is changing so much, but this has stayed the same. It’s a time capsule,” Santangelo said.
