This Week at the Farmers Market: Bok Choy, Sprouts, Fresh Juice & Tamales

Jan 26, 20173 min read

All of that rain is gone and out has come the sun. If you let the wet climate keep you home the last few weekends, the markets are ready and waiting for you to come out to celebrate the return of the weather Tucson is known for.

Community Food Bank Farmers Markets

Each week at the Santa Cruz River market, a table is going to be set up with activities for the littlest market goers. This month the focus of the booth will be on bees and honey. Stop by for coloring and activity pages to help keep the kids entertained and hopefully learn a few things.

Santa Cruz River Farmers Market

100 S. Avenida del Convento, 3 – 6 p.m. Thursday

  • Scraps on Scraps helps to make it possible for you to turn your waste into compost. Sign up at the market and they will send you home with a bucket. Come back each week to swap it out for a clean one.
  • High Energy Agriculture has all of the greens needed to keep you healthy. Enjoy green tomatoes, bok choy, white Russian kale, Siberian kale, red Russian kale, and lacinato kale.
Community Food Bank Farm Stand

3003 S. Country Club Rd., 8 a.m. – noon Tuesday

  • Abundant Harvest Cooperative harvested apples, oranges, lemons, kale, arugula, spinach, sprouts, turnips, radishes, squash, cilantro, broccoli,  hot chilies and fresh herbs.

For more information visit communityfoodbank.org.

FoodInRoot

FoodInRoot has an app designed to communicate with you about what is happening at their markets each day. You can sign up for a specific market or to get information on all of them happening around Tucson. There are also rewards for checking in to a market that range from discounts to tote bags to even special invitations to events. Head to http://foodinroot.com/about/farmfan/to learn more about it and sign up.

Frida Fridays Farmers Market

2150 N. Alvernon Way., 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday

  • Cindy Gardens has a beautiful collection of radishes, tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic, and citrus, all locally grown not using any chemicals or pesticides.
  • A Slice of Heaven bakes fresh, decadent desserts for you to enjoy. Look out for cinnamon rolls, whoopee pies and red velvet cupcakes to name a few.
St. Philip’s Plaza Farmers Market

4280 N. Campbell Ave., 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Sunday

  • Pure Love Juice uses raw vegetables and fruits to create unique, delicious combinations of juice used to detoxify your body from the inside out.
  • Del Cielo Tamales makes all of its tamales using a traditional, family recipe. Varieties include Green Corn, Traditional, Vegetarian, Vegan and Spinach.

Heirloom Farmers Markets

Heirloom Farmers Market launched a new program last year that makes supporting local agriculture so much easier. All vendors who run Southern Arizona farms and ranches and those that produce their products locally, all receive a red flag that either says “Real Farmer”, “Real Rancher” or “Real Producer.” Heirloom works hard to ensure that all these vendors meet the set qualifications that are explained at heirloomfm.org.

Rillito Park

4502 N. 1st Ave., 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Sunday

  • Fermented Tea Company is a family run company that loves making kombucha. Visit this vendor and get to know the heart behind the operation while picking up a combination pack of all the best flavors they have to offer.
Oro Valley

10901 N. Oracle Rd., 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday

  • Sunset Cove Growers specializes in mixed greens. Make your own salad blend from fresh, organic, locally grown produce.
Trail Dust Town

6541 E. Tanque Verde Rd., 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Friday

  • San Rafael Valley Grass-Fed Beef raises 100% grass-fed beef using no hormones, antibiotics, feed lot or pesticides. Stop by for steaks, roasts, sausage, burgers and other specialty cuts.

Since the Old Pueblo packs desert trails, historic missions, art districts, and a UNESCO City of Gastronomy designation into one metro area, visitors can easily build a full day around any interest and land near a Restaurant Week stop when it’s time to eat.

Swipe to see six itineraries built around Tucson’s core attractions, each paired with nearby restaurants participating in this year’s event. Menus and prices are subject to change, so it’s worth confirming details on the Sonoran Restaurant Week website before heading out.@Sonoranrestaurantweek runs from September 4 through 13, 2026, and it’s the perfect excuse to pair a day of Tucson sightseeing with a prix fixe meal.
