Hey HEY friends! It’s Michael with the Tucson Foodie podcast, where we highlight all the latest, the greatest, and the tastiest food-focused news in and around Tucson.
Red Desert Barbecue
Food truck goes brick and mortar
Tucson’s barbecue scene is literally heating up! With a ton of additions in the last few years, like Brother John’s, Red’s Smokehouse, Holy Smokin’ Butts, and Ken’s Hardwood Barbecue, you’d think there’d be no room left, but oh no – there’s plenty. This time it’s West Prince – 918 W. Prince to be exact – where food truck (or shall we say ‘former’ food truck) Red Desert Barbecue will permanently park for its foray into brick and mortar. Look for a mid-October opening…
Ten-Fifty Five Brewing
Local brewers announce downtown brewpub plans
Ten-Fifty Five Brewing was nearly radio silent for a while as they – noses to the grindstone – were focused on raising funds for their expansion. Well, the wait is over and it sounds like it was worth it as they recently announced the opening of a downtown brewery meets restaurant – sausage focused, no less – featuring none other than Ten Fifty Five beer. They might have also hinted at working on the best Belgian fries in town. So, if killer sausage, beer and French fries is your thing, you’ll definitely want to get Spring 2018 on your calendar – that’s the tentative launch date.
Geronimo’s Revenge
Food truck favorite finds fanatical fanbase on Fourth
While Red Desert Barbecue is parking their truck, there’s another hot joint on wheels hitting people in the palate where it counts. Geronimo’s Revenge – run by Jeronimo Madril (or Mo for short) is bringing chef-driven, seasonal, local fare to – really – wherever you can find him. Most nights though, it’s near Che’s Lounge on 4th Ave. In fact, if you caught any of the U.S Fries fiasco prior to the late night poutine shop closing their doors for good recently, you might have caught wind of Geronimo’s Revenge.
Willcox Wine Festival
Local wines shine at this Southern Arizona fall fest
Speaking of revenge, local winemakers have been upping their game, big time. Bet you didn’t know we have our own AVA now – that’s short for American Viticultural Area, in case you didn’t know and it’s one of those official labels for an area that’s a “designated wine grape-growing region in the United States distinguishable by geographic features.” You know – like Napa, Sonoma, and the Central Coast. Really though, what’s most important is that a handful of these winemakers will be at the Willcox Wine Festival October 21 and 22 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Seriously, if you’re into wine, get down there! Some of AZ’s best winemakers will be present, such as Caduceus, Keeling Schaefer, Page Springs, Pillsbury, and more.
Offal Beer Dinner
Organ meat, meet beer
Alright, lastly, some of you will love this and some of you will cringe, but one of our favorite local chefs – and friends – Chef Ryan Clark, who’s running the entire culinary scene at Casino del Sol, is offering the perfect way for you child-less peeps to spend Halloween: an “offal” dinner. Paired with beer no less. Not awful as in terrible, but OFFAL as in organ meat. That’s right – Google it: o-f-f-a-l. It’s a foodie’s dream. I mean, we’re talking pâté, pig jowls, sweetbreads, foie gras, and well, I’ll just leave it there and let you look the rest up for yourself on our site. I don’t want to make you vomit if offal isn’t your thing. It’s 5 courses, each delicately paired with a phenomenal craft brew. And – BONUS – we have two seats to giveaway to this dinner – simply head over to our Facebook page – and share the ‘offal dinner’ post that’s pinned to the top along with the hashtags ‘offalfoodie’ and – check the spelling – it’s o-f-f-a-l and we’ll randomly select a winner. Or, if you’re on Instagram, post a pic of something ‘offal’ along with the hashtag ‘#offalfoodie.’ and #tucsonfoodie.
