For the younger crowd, it’s a summer time tradition, but this year, adults get to partake in the fun.
Tucson Jewish Community Center is hosting Around the World: Adult Summer Camp Monday, June 12 – Friday, June 16.
Travel the world in just one week and without ever leaving the Tucson. Each day of the camp you’ll be able to channel your inner adventurer, and introduce yourself to the languages, cooking classes, and cultures of China, France, Italy, Mexico, and Israel.
Whether you’d like to set up camp and explore one country, or all discover all five during the week, it’s completely up to you.
One day of the Adult Summer Camp is $60 per person or $50 for Tucson Jewish Community Center members.
If you want to explore each country and hit the mess hall all week long, the weekly rate is $275 per person or $225 for members.

Monday, June 12 – Mexico
- (9 -10:15 a.m.) Introduction to Spanish Class with Spanish instructor Myriam Barrientos
- (10:15 – 11:30 a.m) Mexican Tile Making with Gerri Young
Tuesday, June 13 – China
- (9 – 10:15 a.m.) Introduction to Mandarin class with Tucson’s Chinese Cultural Center
- (10:15 – 11:30 a.m.) Chinese calligraphy with Tucson’s Chinese Cultural Center
Wednesday, June 14 – Italy
- (9 – 10:15 a.m.) Introduction to Italian class with Italian instructor Theresa Levy
- (10:15 – 11:30 a.m.) Italian cooking demonstration with Roma Imports’ Lilian Speith
Thursday, June 15 – France
- (9 – 10:15 a.m.) Introduction to French with Alliance Française de Tucson
- (10:15 – 11:30 a.m.) Crepe cooking class with Alliance Francaise de Tucson
Friday, June 16 – Israel
- (9 – 9:45 a.m.) Introduction to Hebrew with instructor Sara Mussman
- (9:45 – 10:30 a.m.) Israeli dance with instructor Brandi Hawkins
- (10:30 – 11:30 a.m.) Israeli cooking class, followed with Shabbat prayers

More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
