Choice Greens owners to open Joesler Kitchen on River Road, now hiring

Oct 21, 20262 min read

Joesler Kitchen, a new neighborhood restaurant from the owners of Choice Greens, is preparing to open at Joesler Village in late November.

Co-owners Jeff Katz and Paolo DeFilippis also operate Graze Premium Burgers and Truland Burgers & Greens. The restaurant carries the byline "Neighborly Food and Drink."

A new concept in a familiar space

Joesler Kitchen will open at 1825 E. River Road, Suite 119. The owners previously ran a location for Choice Greens location in that space. They closed it to develop the new concept.

The team has worked on the project for about a year. The space redesign alone took six or seven months, Katz said. FORS architecture + interiors handled the design, and Hidden Hollow Construction handled the build. Both firms have worked with the owners on restaurant spaces for years.

The restaurant spans about 3,500 square feet. It seats roughly 110 guests across the dining room, bar, and patio. The patio welcomes pets. The bar offers both indoor and outdoor seating.

A name that honors local architecture

The name ties the restaurant to its home at Joesler Village and honors Josias Joesler, the architect whose designs helped shape Tucson's character.

The name also reflects a vision for "a welcoming neighborhood gathering place," Katz said.

What to expect from the menu

Katz said the restaurant is "a modern American eatery with elevated but approachable food." He added that guests can expect "a welcoming atmosphere and a genuine neighborhood feel."

The restaurant is still finalizing the menu. It will include appetizers, hand-helds, salads, entrées, and desserts. Vegetarian and gluten-free options will appear throughout.

Entrées will likely cost $22 to $35. Appetizers, hand-helds, and salads will range from $8 to $20.

The bar will pour a diverse selection of beer, wine, and cocktails. Katz said guests should feel at home stopping in for a casual lunch, enjoying a drink at the bar, or gathering for dinner with friends and family.

Hours of operation

Joesler Kitchen will open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Sundays through Thursdays, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Hiring fair set for Oct. 25

Ahead of opening, Joesler Kitchen will host a hiring fair from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25. The event takes place at the restaurant, 1825 E. River Rd., Suite 119.

The team seeks servers, back servers, bartenders, hosts, and kitchen staff. Applicants can also apply online or email joeslerkitchen@gmail.com.

Customers can stop in between now and Saturday for one last meal. The team plans to sell down its inventory, though it hopes to have favorite dishes available. Regular hours remain 9am-3pm through the final day.

“Running this kitchen has been a labor of love, but the numbers just aren’t adding up anymore, and as parents, we have to make the hard choice to step back and take care of what matters most at home.”

Tucson’s food scene draws people to the city year-round. Locals and visitors alike also appreciate the chance to eat outdoors from October through April, when daytime highs often settle in the 60s and 70s. Even on “cold” evenings, a patio with a heater or fire pit keeps dinner comfortable.

Whether you want a quiet brunch, a lively happy hour, or a long dinner under the stars, this list offers a place to start. Check each restaurant’s hours before you go, since patio seating may vary by weather and season. More details on Tucsonfoodie.com.🌞
