Where To Eat Now: Weekend of August 22

Aug 22, 20142 min read

For this edition of Where To Eat Now, we’re focusing on the River & Campbell area. If you live in the area, you’ll probably be familiar with these places, but if you’re not, it’s a doable day of eating, although you might feel better spreading it out over two days or even a week.

Caffe Luce Cappuccino

Caffe Luce

4205 N Campbell #125

Caffe Luce is a local cafe and roaster. You might have noticed them on Park Ave just north of University, however they have a second location next door to Choice Greens in the Trader Joe’s shopping center at River & Campbell.

I’ve haven’t had many of their espresso drinks, but the drip coffee is some of the best in town.

Planet of the Crepes

Sure, you’ve probably heard of Planet of the Crepes. You might have even waited the often 30 – 45 minutes for a crepe. But, if you haven’t, get over there. And try their Vegan Crepe. It’s pure deliciousness filled with vegan pesto, avocado, mushrooms, tomatoes, and spinach on a gluten free/vegan crepe.

They get around since they’re a food truck (or trailer), but if you’re hitting them up on Sunday in the River & Campbell area, you can find them at the St. Phillips Plaza Farmers Market and Saturday at the Oro Valley Farmers Market.

Zinburger

1865 E River Rd

Well known and loved for their delicious high end burgers ground fresh daily in the restaurant, Zinburger added new items recently including a blue cheese burger, a ‘Blanco’ burger, a Kale Caesar, and loaded fries, as well as some new shakes.

Union Public House

4340 N Campbell Ave

Almost guaranteed to be packed, UPH has also added a great selection of new menu items. Although this is a great spot for appetizers and drinks, the revamped dinner menu is impressive. Standout item? Lamb Shank with market carrot polenta, and fennel salad (pictured above).

Scordato’s Pizzeria

4280 N Campbell Ave.

If you’ve just come from Union Public House, you’re probably not going to be hungry for pizza which is what Scordato’s Pizzeria is known for (and rightfully so). But, from what I hear, the Warm Chocolate Mousse Cake is phenomenal. In fact the last time I found myself at Scordato’s they had sold out of the popular dessert.

@istanbultucson is expanding with a second location, @istanbulmediterraneanexpress, at 5660 W. Cortaro Farms Rd.

The fast-casual spot will feature about 75% of the original location’s menu, plus two exclusive dishes: build-your-own Turkish stuffed baked potatoes, known as Kumpir, and fresh-ground doner made in-house. The falafel plate and stuffed potatoes can also be made vegan.

“The first restaurant taught us what our customers love most, so at Cortaro we’re focusing the menu around our most popular dishes while making the experience a little more casual and convenient. Most importantly, we’ve learned that no matter how much we grow, the quality of our food has to stay high every single day.” — Kamran Esar
