The wheels on the bikes go round and round, and the beer from the taps comes pouring down (after the big race, that is). El Tour de Tucson season is here.
For a second consecutive year, Dragoon Brewing Company and El Tour de Tucson have teamed up for an official beer — a Dragoon Pils — in honor of the annual race. The beer reveal party is happening from 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 10 at Gentle Ben’s, 865 E. University Blvd.
“We’re so thrilled to be back this year as the beer sponsor of El Tour de Tucson,” said Tristan White, owner of Dragoon Brewing. “Last year’s event was a huge success and we’re looking forward to the 41st event as it not only brings the Tucson community together, but spotlights Tucson on an international scale. Look out for our custom-branded Dragoon Pils clothed in the wonderful El Tour de Tucson 2024 artwork at your local stores!”
The can’s artwork may look familiar to Tucsonans — it was created by local and renowned artist Joe Pagac.
“We are thrilled to be a partner with El Tour de Tucson which is known globally as a premier bicycling event and contributes millions of need dollars to support our local charities,” said Richard Fifer, owner of Gentle Ben’s.
As mentioned earlier, the event is held at Gentle Ben’s, a restaurant and bar located near the University of Arizona that’s been open since 1971. Being that it’s so close to the school, Gentle Ben’s is a year-round favorite to many offering a vibrant atmosphere, entertainment, food, and drinks.

The beer reveal is open to the public, too! So, come down to Main Gate Square, have a taste of the new beer, and take part in some freebies/giveaways at Gentle Ben’s.
Also, registration is now open for this year’s El Tour De Tucson, happening on Saturday, November 23.
Dragoon Brewing and El Tour De Tucson will showcase the beer on Thursday, October 10 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Gentle Ben’s, 865 E. University Blvd. For more information on El Tour De Tucson, visit eltourdetucson.org.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
