For years now, the local whole-animal butcher Forbes Meat Co., which specializes in charcuterie and custom butchery, has been supporting local ranchers and serving the community out of its former downtown location at 220 E. Broadway Blvd. Over the weekend, they debuted its brand-new spot nestled inside Flora’s Market Run.

The market and restaurant at 2513 E. Sixth St. made the announcement on social media, introducing Ben Forbes and his team.
“We’re having a lot of fun today it’s so good to see you all walk through the door,” Forbes Meat Company shared over the weekend. “Now you can get all the meats, amazing house-baked bread, pastries, beer, wine, coffee, and so much more.”
Forbes Meat Co. is open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. (sometimes as late as 7 p.m.) daily.
Throughout the weekend, the shop celebrated its fresh shipment of seafood and served lobster rolls to-go. They were also dishin’ out Jalapeño Bacon Cheddar Burgers, too, so keep an eye out for other sandwich specials in the coming days.

Butcher Shop at The Baffert
It’s been a highly-anticipated opening and Tucsonans have had to test their patience levels for more than two years now. In June 2021, we caught wind of The Baffert at Five Points and its plans to open by the winter of that same year.
The process has been moving along, though, and the building is getting close to opening its doors to some of its businesses inside — one of those being an additional Forbes Meat Co. location.
The butcher shop is still planning to open at The Baffert at 747 S. Sixth Ave. by the end of the year. Forbes is hoping for early November but we’ll keep you in the loop for an exact grand opening date.
“Our ultimate goal is to have The Baffert connect its residents and merchants to both the excitement of Tucson’s vital Downtown core and the cultural richness of our treasured South Tucson,” said Larry Kappler. “We strive to do this by providing quality builds to small, local businesses at affordable prices and are thrilled for the ones we have going into the property.”
Forbes Meat Co. is located inside Flora’s Market Run at 2513 E. Sixth St. For more information, visit forbesmeatcompany.com.

Matt Sterner
More about MattAt a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.
He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.
If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
