Kingfisher Bar & Grill reopens its dining room with a new menu & limited seating

Jan 21, 20212 min read

The midtown restaurant has been keeping things fresh for more than 25 years now and they’re still going strong with the tides of change.

After a temporary closure, Kingfisher Bar and Grill has reopened its dining room for lunch, dinner, and the new dishes they’re excited to share with big appetites.

New menu to dive into

Chefs Jeff Azersky and Jim Murphy are pumped about the new menu, which features Cedar planked Salmon and Kingfisher Bouillabaisse. Many of the favorites have stuck around, too, like the Macadamia crusted Hawaiian Fish, Alaskan Cod Fish and Chips, Sriracha Steamed Black Mussels, and Prickly Pear Baby Back Pork Ribs.

The same goes for Kingfisher’s regional oyster selection and the ever-growing wine list, and the restaurant’s focus on keeping things fresh.

Hours of operation

Kingfisher’s dining rooms and bar will be open for limited seating by reservation only for lunch from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Tuesday – Saturday, and then dinner is from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. on Tuesday – Saturday.

With the limited seating, they’re recommending that reservations are made a few days in advance since the seating is extremely limited, and they ask if you keep your parties to nine people at the most.

If dining in the restaurant isn’t your cup of tea, they’re still offering curbside pickup. Kingfisher has a couple of parking spots reserved for those taking their food home.

Kingfisher released the following about the reopening in a statement:

“Guests will be delighted to see that most of the ‘family’ of the Kingfisher staff has returned. Many have been with the restaurant for a large part of their 27 years. They are all looking forward to seeing their “regulars” and welcoming the Tucson public.”

As clean as a whistle

The following safety measures are currently in place at Kingfisher:

  • All guests must wear masks to enter the building
  • Daily cleaning procedures in both front and back of the house
  • Tables are sanitized between each guest
  • The common areas are cleaned on an hourly basis
  • There are hand sanitizing stations throughout the restaurant
  • Restaurant is professionally sanitized weekly with an Aerosolized Anti-Bacterial

Kingfisher is located at 2564 E. Grant Rd. For more information, call (520) 323-7739 or visit kingfishertucson.com.

More about Matt

At a very young age, Matt Sterner was gifted with the artistic ability to masterfully roll a burrito to the highest of standards, but the wrapped medley of delicious innards wasn’t his first love. Matt’s first true love was a combination of reading, writing, and creating. He grew up reading comics, the ingredients list of his shampoo and conditioner bottles, choose-your-own-adventure books, and the Scrabble dictionary — something he found useful when challenging his grandmother to a game.

He attended college at New Mexico State University and graduated with a degree in Digital Filmmaking. One of his favorite classes was screenwriting because he became responsible for the story’s birth before it came to life on-screen. After school, Matt took on numerous positions at a local television station in Tucson. From dealing out stories about heartbreak to producing “fluffier” content for a lifestyle broadcast, he learned what it takes to adapt to the many emotions the world of media can stir. Since 2017, Matt has dabbled in the culinary world of Tucson as well as San Diego, California from time to time.

If you’re in the mood for strange stories, head over to his pride and joy, wonkytimes.com. And in case you’re curious — yes, after all of this time, he still manages to roll a killer burrito.
