Sonoran House Sam Hughes marks one year with breakfast & new menus

Jul 28, 20263 min read

Sonoran House Sam Hughes turns one year old this month, and the 2513 E. Sixth St. restaurant is marking the milestone with an overhaul of its food and drink programming. New breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and happy hour menus all launch Aug. 1. Partner Kevin Bedient says the team has spent the past eight months developing the changes.

"Breakfast and Brunch has been a request of our customers since day one," said executive chef Gabriella Alba. "After a year under our aprons, we are ready!"

A year of building toward this moment

Sonoran House Sam Hughes opened July 2025, inside the historic former Rincon Market building at 2513 E. Sixth St. The location combined a specialty coffee shop, craft cocktail bar, scratch kitchen, and a retail space featuring more than 150 local artisans. It marked the second location for the Sonoran House brand, which originally opened in August 2024 at 1610 N. Tucson Blvd.

Alba joined the team following a statewide search that drew more than 200 applicants. Bedient says watching her work over the past year has shaped how the new menus came together.

'"It is impressive to see Chef Gabby work and we are very lucky to have her," he said. "The way she combines Sonoran flavors with comfort classics makes this menu perfect for Tucson."

New breakfast and brunch menus

Breakfast service runs daily 7 a.m.-3 p.m., with brunch offered Saturday and Sunday during the same window. Several new dishes anchor both menus, and Alba says one in particular has been years in the making.

"I am especially excited to see the Abuelita's French Toast come to fruition," Alba said. "It has been a plate in design for years and is truly delicious."

Abuelita's French Toast arrives with Abuelita hot chocolate sauce, dulce de leche drizzle, cinnamon sugar, candied pepitas, and Chantilly creme ($15). It appears exclusively on the weekend brunch menu alongside a new Mesquite Smoked Carnitas Benedict, made with poached eggs, hollandaise, mesquite hot honey, pickled shallots, queso fresco, biscuit, and breakfast hash ($18). Country Fried Chicken rounds out the brunch additions, plated with two eggs any style, breakfast hash, and sausage gravy on a choice of biscuit, sourdough, milkbread, or English muffin ($19).

The weekend brunch menu also introduces Breakfast Charcuterie ($25), a curated board of assorted morning meats, artisanal cheeses, sweets, and seasonal accoutrements.

Both the daily breakfast and weekend brunch menus carry forward existing favorites, including the Breakfast Crunchwrap with salsa tatemada ($10), the SoHo Plate with two eggs any style and breakfast hash ($13), the Sonoran Scramble with hatch cheddar and cilantro lime crema ($15), and the Avocado Toast with queso fresco and chile lime pepita crunch ($15).

An expanded dinner menu

The dinner menu, served 3 p.m. to close daily, includes some new additions and modifications. Highlights include:

  • Salmon: pan-seared, with forbidden rice pilaf, sweet corn succotash, and charred lime beurre blanc ($30)

  • Vera Earl Ranch Carne: chargrilled steak with wood-fired oyster mushrooms, mojo potato, cipollini onions, and charred scallion chimichurri; available as Vera Earl Filet Mignon six-ounce ($40) or Vera Earl Porterhouse ($70)

  • Mole Negro Enchilada: wood-fired oyster mushrooms, mole negro, sikil pak, herb salad, pickled shallots, and pepita lime crunch ($30)

  • Brick Chicken: airline chicken breast with mesquite hot honey, cornbread, and mesquite smoked carrots and cipollini onions ($30)

  • Ribs: prickly pear BBQ, Mexican street corn, cornbread, and pickled shallots ($32)

Updated happy hour and daily drink specials

The happy hour menu also changes Aug. 1. Happy hour runs 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The daily drink specials also update with Martini Monday $3 off martinis, Wine Wednesday 15% off glasses and bottles, Flight Friday $42 whiskey flights, and Spritz Saturday and Sunday, featuring $11 spritzes across seven options: Amaro, Aperol, Campari, Hugo, Lillet, Limoncello, and Pama Pomegranate.

Sonoran House Sam Hughes is open daily at 2513 E. Sixth St., with breakfast and coffee service beginning at 7 a.m. For hours and more information, visit sonoranhouse.com.
