When you think of contributors to Tucson’s growing downtown scene, buzz worthy restaurants, trendy apartment buildings and new office spaces come to mind.
You may not think about the movers and shakers that are doing work behind the scenes to create your favorite new hotspots.
As part of Architecture Week 2015, FORS Architecture + Interiors, Repp Mclain Design and Construction, Rob Paulus Architects and Downtown Tucson Partnership’s Michael Keith will be giving an exclusive tour of Congress Street and South 6th Avenue.
“This is one of the first opportunities where we have been able to unpack the contents of downtown Tucson and see it from the perspective of some of the people who have been instrumental in weaving it together,” said Ryan Repucci, board member of the American Institute of Architects’ Southern Arizona chapter, which is behind Architecture Week. “Participants will be presented with not only the history and the current state of downtown, but a vision of its future direction.”
The walking tour, which starts at 4pm and runs until 5:30 on October 17, includes the recently opened Johnny Gibson’s Downtown Market, the soon-to-be-open Elvira’s restaurant (pegged for Winter 2016), HUB Restaurant & Ice Creamery, Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails, Playground Bar & Lounge, Proper, Diablo Burger, Good Oak Bar and Sparkroot.
It ends with a reception at Connect Coworking, where the tour organizers will invite discussion about downtown’s development and future.
Tickets are $15 each and tour participants will qualify for discounts at select Tucson restaurants.
