Tucsonans with a passion for great food and wine will want to check out the Wine & Cheese Summer Camp at Blu: A Wine & Cheese Stop, located at the Mercado San Agustin.
“Campers” will discover how to navigate the expanding world of wine and cheese being produced by today’s artisans, both locally and around the world. Four camp sessions are offered, on consecutive Fridays in August, 5:30-6:30 p.m., each featuring a different topic:
This summer’s camp leaders include Tana Fryer, Blu’s cheesemonger-in-chief;  Holly Holton, manager of Blu Cheese Shops at Alfonso’s; Melissa Hall, Blu’s resident wine expert; and Alicynn Fink, who earned a Masters in Food, Culture and Communication from the Universita di Scienze Gastronomiche (and frequent Tucson Foodie contributor).
Fryer, who owns Blu: A Wine & Cheese Stop, is also a member of the American Cheese Society. She received her training as a cheesemonger at Pastoral Artisan Cheese, Wine and Bread in Chicago, one of the premier cheese and wine shops in the Midwest.
The cost of each session is $20, which includes wine and cheese, plus a $10 rebate on any retail purchase. Campers who attend all four sessions also receive a 15% discount on dining during their visit.
Blu A Wine & Cheese Stop opened at The Mercado San Agustin in January 2014 offering artisanal retail products, casual dining, catering and gifting.
