For the last six years, Hotel Congress has created a tequila-lover’s paradise at their annual one-night Agave Fest. This year, they’ll expand the celebration to include the history and culture of all agave-infused spirits.
In partnership with Vamos a Tucson and the Mexican Consulate, ticket-holders for the 7th Annual Agave Fest can attend seminars with a world-renowned mezcal expert, test their tastebuds with chapulines (grasshoppers), try tequilas by Roger Clyne and George Clooney, and have the opportunity to taste mezcal typically unattainable in the United States. Attendees will also have access to the Hotel Congress’s Art in the Lobby exhibit featuring historical photographs depicting the agave culture of Mexico.
One featured seminar presenter, Sergio Inurrigaro, is the President and Founder of the Pro Mezcal Culture Association and Director of the Master Mezcalier Program. Inurrigaro has led more than 1,750 mezcal tastings in more than sixty-one cities across the world, and is scheduled to host seminars and tastings throughout the event, including the Agave 101 lecture at 5pm.
The festivities start at 6pm on Saturday, May 2. Tickets are $35 in advance and include ten tasting tickets for a selection of over fifty spirits, a commemorative shot glass, a cascarone (confetti egg), treats at the Cup Cafe‘s specialty taco and salsa bar, live entertainment by Vox Urbana, and a vote for the Best Cocktail by the Historic East End Bartenders sponsored by Yelp Tucson.
If you plan on fully indulging in the night’s festivities, Hotel Congress is offering a special hotel room packages that include two tickets to the event, a hangover recovery kit, and Agave Fest memorabilia. If you opt to find your way home but still find yourself in need of a hangover recovery kit the next morning, there’s always the Baked Eggs at Cup Cafe. Just be sure to make a reservation.
