Wine Week pours local deals, tastings, & sips across Tucson and beyond

May 22, 20267 min read

Wine Week uncorks the next chapter of Tucson Foodie’s 12 Weeks of Foodie Summer.

Running May 25 through 31, Wine Week celebrates Arizona’s growing wine scene with specials, tastings, and events at local venues ranging from Tucson bars and bottle shops to Verde Valley and Willcox tasting rooms. Whether you prefer a crisp white blend, a bold Grenache, or a side-by-side Malbec tasting, there is something worth sipping this week.

As with every week in the 12 Weeks of Foodie Summer campaign, diners and drinkers can upload receipts at summer.tucsonfoodie.com for a chance to win weekly prizes and roll entries into the grand prize drawing at the end of the summer.

This week’s prize lineup includes a $50 gift card to Polish Cottage, a $100 Visa gift card, and tickets to the World Margarita Championship.

Where to celebrate Wine Week

Several wineries and wine-focused venues across the region are joining in with deals and experiences built around the occasion.

Arizona Wine Collective joins the celebration with 20% off select bottles and half-price refills. The collective also hosts a Pasta and Wine Class on May 31, rounding out the week with a hands-on experience.

Copper Horse Vineyard offers a free tasting of its new Silver Peak 2024 white blend, along with half-price glasses of the same wine. Visit copperhorsevineyard.net for more information

Bodega Pierce brings its Sip Into Summer promotion to both its Willcox location at 4511 E. Robbs Road and its Clarkdale tasting room at 1341 W. State Route 89A. The winery offers 10% off any two bottles of Bodega Pierce wine for the week. Find them at bodegapierce.com or @bodegapierce on Instagram.

Eco Buzz Tours offers a Wine Week deal for those who want to make a full day of it. The company runs private Sonoita wine tours from Tucson in an electric VW ID.Buzz van, and it takes 10% off any tour reserved during Wine Week using code AZWINEWEEK. Tours may be redeemed within 12 months of booking. Visit EcoBuzzTours.com to reserve a spot.

Cove Mesa Vineyard offers 10% off flights offer as well. Visit covemesa.com for more information.

Callaghan Vineyards offers its Back Lot 2021, a Grenache and Graciano blend made with 60% whole cluster that earned a 91/100 from Purely Domestic Wine Report. The wine drops from its regular $35 per bottle price to $28 per bottle for the week. Find more at callaghanvineyards.com or follow @callaghanvineyards and @kentcallaghan.

Pillsbury Wine Co. and Laramita Cellars are teaming up for a joint tasting event on May 30 and 31. Winemakers Sam and Greg will both be on hand to pour four wines each — six cellar-aged Pillsbury wines at 25% off and four Laramita selections — while sharing stories from their respective journeys. The event takes place at the Pillsbury Wine Co. tasting room.

Skyhaven Wines keeps it simple with 10% off any six-pack purchase and buy-one-get-one tastings all week.

AZ Stronghold rounds out the Verde Valley lineup with $5 off flights and 10% off bottles for the week.

Caduceus and Merkin Vineyards offer $5 off Barrel Room Tours at the Merkin Vineyards Hilltop Winery and Trattoria in Old Town Cottonwood. Show the promotion to your host to redeem. Tours run Thursday through Monday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Page Springs Cellars highlights two events — Breaking Bread and Tilted Earth — and offers 10% off select bottles and 20% off select flights throughout the week.

Golden Rule Vineyards welcomes guests with a complimentary tasting for four, paired with a sampling of Arizona pistachios. Check their website or social channels for reservation details.

Make a day of it: Sonoita wine country

Several Wine Week participants call the Sonoita-Elgin wine region home – Arizona’s first American Viticultural Area (AVA), about an hour southeast of Tucson. The rolling high-desert hills and cooler temperatures make it a worthy day trip, and this week gives you extra reason to go.

Arizona Hops & Vines celebrates the week with flight specials, summer wine pairing experiences, and 10% off bottles. The tasting room also hosts live music on Saturday. Visit arizonahopsandvines.com for hours and details.

Sonoran Wines invites visitors to its Last Saturday Tasting Series at the vineyard on May 31 from noon-3 p.m. for the Sonoran Suckering Social. The winery also offers 15% off all purchases in person or at sonoranwines.com through May 31 with code AZWINEWEEK.

Twisted Union offers 50% off one tasting flight or glass of wine per customer and 10% off select bottles including its NV All for One, 2023 Joy Rider, 2023 Malbec, and 2022 Bake Sale. On Saturday, May 30, the tasting room hosts a Shop, Snack & Sip event featuring savory Celtic pies from the Scottish Pie Man alongside wine- and nature-inspired artwork by local artist Jen Howard.

Deep Sky Vineyard takes a more exploratory approach by pouring its Arizona Malbec alongside its Argentina Malbec, offering guests a direct comparison of two growing regions that produce strikingly similar results. Both wines will appear on the tasting menu and available by the glass all week.

Planning to visit more than one? The Tucson Foodie Sonoita-Elgin Wine Passport unlocks more than $150 in value across eight Sonoita-area wineries including Deep Sky and Twisted Union — for a one-time purchase of $45. Download the Tucson Foodie app to grab yours before they’re gone. Learn more at here.

Cup Cafe at Hotel Congress spotlights four wines from Sonoran Wines, an estate-grown Arizona winery rooted in the landscape and history of the Sonoran Desert. Grown near the Chiricahua Mountains along the banks of Turkey Creek, Sonoran Wines produces limited-production bottles that reflect Arizona’s unique desert terroir. Cup Cafe pairs each wine with dishes from its dinner menu, including San Bernadino with Barrio Heartbreaker or Sweet Chili Calamari, Petite Sirah with Beef Bourguignon, Rosé with Salmon Farro or Raspberry Pistachio Cheesecake, and Mourvèdre with Pork Schnitzel. Find the wines at the Cup Cafe, the Lounge, and The Century Room. Make a reservation through Hotel Congress and learn more at sonoranwines.com.

Between the pools, hot spring and cold plunge, water slide, yoga, live music, complimentary bike rentals, and their nostalgic “Summer Rewind” experience, there was always something to do. We never left the resort.

The highlight at their on-site restaurant, Epazote Kitchen & Cocktails, was the Pollo Con Rajas - perfectly cooked chicken over a rich creamed poblano, onion, and corn mestizaje. And if you’re at their Sundance Café for breakfast, get the pozole. It’s made from a family recipe that became such a guest favorite it earned a permanent spot on the menu.

Although El Conquistador licenses the Hilton brand, it’s owned and operated by a local company. The culinary team sources much of its meat and produce from Arizona.

Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or just looking for an incredible dinner with Catalina Mountain views, this spot is worth adding to your list. 🌵🌞
