Summer Specials at Sauce Pizza & Wine

Summer Specials at Sauce Pizza & Wine

Jun 3, 20151 min read

With the recent influx of craft pizza joints flooding the Tucson food scene, it can be difficult to decide which will best satisfy your rumbling stomach come meal time. However, it is important to remember one fast-fire pizza chain that has been around for yearsĀ and is always ready to serve up delicious, casual Italian cuisine.

This summer, a number of seasonal specials and party deals may help move Sauce Pizza &Ā Wine to the front of the competitive craft pizza line.

The Summer Sampler includes one pizza, one salad and two glasses of wine for $20. Don’t expect just any house salad here.Ā Try out the crunchy Summer Watermelon Salad, with watermelon, jicama, spinach, arugula, feta and a white balsamic vinaigrette. Start scoping out the shaded parking spots and get into Sauce between June 1 and August 31 for this deal.

Should Sauce’s air conditioning alone not to do the trick, there are always cooler food options. For example, the Chicken, Spinach, and Apple salad, with gorgonzola and candied walnuts or the Quinoa, Beet and Arugula salad with golden beets, avocado, goats cheese, Fuji apples and pistachios. Pair your choice with a chilled Sauvignon Blanc from Clifford Bay, New Zealand or a Chardonnay from Canyon Road.

If you’re crazy enough to consider a picnic, but do not even want to think about cooking in a warm kitchen, the Large Party to Go is your answer. Opt for either a pizza or a pasta party that serves ten, and you will also be treated to baked rolls, triple chocolate cookies and drinks. Luckily, International Picnic Day is June 18, just before we all retreat to our homes for reverse hibernation.

A new Chihuahuan-style restaurant and tortilla factory is opening in Tucson! @Tortillaschiwas debuts Thursday at 914 N. Grande Ave. in Barrio Hollywood, inside the former Grande Tortilla Factory.

Phoenix restaurateurs Armando Hernandez and chef Nadia Holguin, a married couple originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, are behind the project. The James Beard-nominated duo will bring a roughly 15-item menu featuring dishes from their Phoenix restaurants, including Cocina Chiwas and Espiritu Cocktails + Comida.

Tortillas Chiwas will initially be open Thursdays through Saturdays from 5–10 p.m. with just 38 seats. Reservations are available on OpenTable. The team also plans to mill nixtamal on-site for hand-pressed tortillas, continuing the building’s long tortilla-making history.

ā€œIndian food represents many different regions and cooking styles, featuring far more than the curries that it is popularly known for — though those are certainly found in abundance at Tucson’s Indian restaurants. For religious reasons, beef and pork are not common in the Indian diet, but carnivores can enjoy plenty of chicken, lamb, and seafood dishes. Most Indian restaurants have large sections of their menus devoted to vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes, too.

Kitchens are almost always accommodating about adjusting spice levels but as a rule of thumb, the hottest dishes are the vindaloos, while the mildest are the kormas and biriyanis.ā€ — @ediebjarolim
