With the influx of breweries, wineries and bars that have popped up in and around Tucson over the last year, it can be difficult to decide where to indulge your palette.
Three Wells Distilling Company is bringing a new option to the table. Though local, artisan distilleries are a growing trend nationwide, closely following in the footsteps of craft breweries, Three Wells is one of only a handful of craft distilleries in Arizona.
As one of two federally-licensed Distilled Spirits Plants here in Tucson, Three Wells began production on January 31 and is now releasing “Sonora Silver,” a unique spirit made from over 50% locally-sourced Prickly Pear cactus fruit. According to the Three Wells website, the spirit tastes like the distillery “took the essence of prickly pear fruit and bottled it.”

Founders Matt Montgomery and Chris Dudding are both natives to Arizona. Montgomery graduated from the Artisan Craft Distilling Institute, while Dudding graduated with a BS in Chemistry from the University of Arizona and later went on to earn an MS in Materials Science and Engineering, bring a unique combination of skills to the new business.
Three Wells sees Arizona’s many unique ingredients and its customers’ interest in buying local products from local producers as a distinct advantage.
“At Three Wells, we are excited by the unique ingredients that the Sonoran Desert has to offer and we have dedicated ourselves to using these ingredients in a responsible manner to produce spirits we know our customers can be proud of,” commented Montgomery.
Three Wells is also currently beginning production of Wheat Whiskey and will release a 100% Blue Agave spirit in the coming months.
