Fourth Avenue bar hoppers will soon have the luxury of chicken and waffles when the The Drunken Chicken opens at 429 N. 4th Avenue mid-August.

The lunch crowd can enjoy the sweet-and-savory meal as well, since the restaurant opens at 10 a.m. daily. However, guests shouldn’t expect sides like collard greens or fried green tomatoes.

“We’re not Southern,” said co-owner Micah Blatt, who also owns Mr. Head’s Art Gallery & Bar.

Drunken Chicken’s menu, designed with the help of Blatt’s wife Chelsy and co-owner Ben Sattler, will instead focus on a few items with quality ingredients.

“The purpose of the small menu is so everything we do can be awesome from the get-go,” Blatt said.

With no freezers in the restaurant, everything will be made from scratch. This includes the Belgian-style waffles and infused syrups. Additionally, Drunken Chicken will feature various dipping sauces from neighboring Fourth Avenue restaurants to pique the interest of guests.

“Chicken’s going to be our main protein,” Sattler said.

The restaurant will source only NAE (no antibiotics ever) chicken. Options such as grilled chicken will be available as well.

“We want it to be good, wholesome food,” Sattler said.

Beer will also be another focus of the restaurant. The restaurant will highlight a different brewery each month, starting with Dragoon Brewing Company until the program gets going. What’s more, 32-ounce and 64-ounce growlers fills will be available.

Since the restaurant will offer only beer and wine, guests craving a cocktail will have to enjoy it at Mr. Head’s. But never fear – Drunken Chicken will deliver to their sister business.

Other “fun stuff” for the menu and beer program will be revealed around the time of the opening.
