Cup It Up American Grill is packing it up following a controversial political Facebook post they shared on Friday.

The Facebook post showed the company’s stance on controversial topics such as repealing Obamacare, drug screening for welfare recipients, Antifa, global warming, and NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. The post was deleted a few hours afterward due to an extreme influx of negative feedback. The restaurant’s Facebook page was also removed.

In the article Cup It Up closes amid harassment over Facebook post, the Arizona Daily Star reported “the restaurant was the target of endless harassing and threatening phone calls” since their Facebook post. Several employees quit as a result of the calls.

Cup It Up’s first location opened in January of 2016 at 1101 N. Wilmot Rd., followed by the Main Gate Square restaurant at 760 N. Tyndall Ave. Both locations are now closed. The restaurant is owned by Chris Smith along with partners Jay Warren and Julian Alarcon, who was not involved with the post and resigned on Saturday.

Phone calls to Cup It Up and Smith were not returned.

Diners looking to get their customized salad fix locally can check out Choice Greens and Core.

    lmao

  • Thomas Fleming

    Fucking morons

  • to no

One-way street, liberals can get away with something similar, but conservatives get crucified…

    • Chritopher_A

Oh bull pucky – Hobby Lobby? Chick-fil-a? There’s too much of it all over on both sides. But here is the lesson. Putting your political views on you business webpage is stupid. People do politics. Coffee shops should just do coffee. You shouldn’t feel like you have to have a party affiliation in order to eat or drink at a particular place – or buy clothes or whatever. They did this to themselves.

      • Mike Barnes

BS. What hypocrisy. Starbucks pushes their leftwing philosophy all the time.

        • Michael Eli Simonoff

how? by not having christmas themed paper goods? I don’t get it?

        • Bob Conti

What, specifically, has Starbuck’s done to make you say that?

          • Mike Barnes

Oh get real. When Schultz told his baristas to have racial “conversations” with their customers, had LGBTQ propaganda on their counters and says they are going to hire refugees to spite Trump. Later had to say they might consider hiring vets too.

    • baruchzed

Grow up and stop lying to yourself and those around you.

    • Pragmaticrat

I learned a long time ago that if I behaved badly there was a really good chance I’d pay a price for it. I suspect that if I had cried that I was the victim afterward it would have been viewed as more bad behavior, resulting in more price to pay. It’s a shame that you don’t seem to have learned that same lesson.

    • Darsha Doran

to no Excuse me but what planet do you live on? You have to be blind to not see that there is just as much Crucifixion [as you refer to it] of liberals as of conservatives. Criticism comes from the media, Hannity and Coulter etc, the current administration, white supremacists, and from people like you. Actually, you are probably not blind just opinionated, narrow-minded, unwilling to ever look at both sides of an argument and completely unable to accept criticism. REGARDLESS, it was pathetically stupid for anyone to post something incendiary and not think that they would be responsible for what they say. Free SPEECH is not always FREE!!

      • Mike Barnes

The Left is NEVER able to tolerate different viewpoints. They suppress speech with violence if necessary on college campuses all over the country. Fascism is a leftist phenom these days. I hate Starbucks far left ideology which they push all the time. But I like the coffee so I go there.

        • disqus_YXIeVijodU

stay the fuck away from ’em – there has to be other shops where u can get your java

    • allen329

Wrong… They SPECIFICALLY said that if you disagree with them to share it with 100 people and not to come. Mission accomplished. You cannot blame liberals when conservatives got exactly what they asked for. And in this case, I do mean EXACTLY.

    • The Saguaro

Sorry, I don’t patronize businesses whose politics I disagree with. Along with them I refuse to goto Hobby Lobby or Chick-fil-a. Voting with my wallet!!

  • Triad of Thebes

Real shame the restaurant was aborted before it came to full term.

  • Glum

    Good bye fools!

  • Madeline

Well, I guess if football players can’t get political on the field, restaurateurs shouldn’t get political on behalf of their restaurant if they’re not willing to accept the blow-back.

Incidentally, other restaurants in Tucson have made very public political statements and didn’t lose business over them. Of course, they made comments supporting a different point of view. A kinder, more reasonable point of view.

    • Mike Barnes

So threatening violence and even murder against this business and its employees is okey dokey with you. How kind, how reasonable. The new Amerika–only some opinions are allowed.

      • Michael Eli Simonoff

you are putting words in Madeline’s mouth….

        • Madeline

He just wants to be angry. But thanks for getting it! 🙂

          • Mike Barnes

Aw, shucks, ma’am, you are way too subtle for this old grunt. Like John Kerry said, I is just unedukated.

          • Joseph Alber

What Madeleine is saying is that “other restaurateurs” in Tucson have been more futile in their business plan and expressing their political opinions within a demographic that shares their political views and opinions — knowing that level-headed Conservatives won’t make such death threats and oppress people. Such as Five Points Market & Restaurant who is clearly an advocate for activism, Antifa Fascism, anti-America and hands out BLM signs. What I do know is that I have a choice to dine wherever I please. Apparently, in Tucson that common knowledge is over their heads… perhaps too much meth, pot, cocaine, LSD… who knows… but sarcasm and felony threats are A-OK in their agenda as long as they get what they want. I dare you to stand up for your rights and expressing your beliefs; well… as long as they mesh with theirs we are gewd Bro…! Sounds like a mental disorder to me…

      • Madeline

Apparently my sarcasm went over your head.

  • NotAboutYou

Funny, they now know how the NFL players feel trying to stand up for their own belief. This is Karma at its best!

  • Jeff Hampton

It’s a damn shame. The owners should have known by stating their convictions in an area of socialistic thinking that something negative was going to happen.

    • Thomas Fleming

      Cuck whiner.

  • RobG

I imagine there were a lot more problems with the restaurant than to blame it on FB? come on…. for one, putting food in cup is a thing? If you can’t make it selling cheap food to college students, then your food must have sucked. Look at Illegal Pete’s.. they had a lot of controversy when they opened and they seem to be doing just fine.

  • baruchzed

The person who chose to post that list of disgusting attitudes, to publicly embrace racism and corruption, is getting exactly what they deserve.

    • Mike Barnes

So much for free speech. Starbucks can bloviate all sorts of crap and that’s ok. Only corruption and intolerance I see is you and your ilk.

      • Michael Eli Simonoff

free speech is allowed.. so is public backlash.. maybe figure out who your customer base is before you post (You’re in a freaking college town and its Tucson, get real guys).. this is the owners fault, he is allowed to have those views but he’s an idiot for marrying those views to his businesses and he is now suffering the consequences.

        • Mike Barnes

Free speech is allowed and not patronizing that business is allowed. What is not allowed is calling up the business and threatening to burn it down with everyone in it. Death threats and other threats to life and limb so that the business is forced to close to protect its employees is bullshit.

          • Joseph Alber

That’s called: terroristic threat in the penal code and punishable to prison time, especially given the gravity of the threats… mmm… a FELONY violation and someone is getting away with it. Thus the business owners, by not filing criminal charges, is encouraging this behavior. Not acceptable in my book.

          • Mike Barnes

            On point, bro.

        • theegreatrandini

So it’s not enough to take their business elsewhere, Liberals have to teach them a lesson & make threats, & mute opposing voices.

      • Bob Conti

They can speak all they want, they just have to understand that with it comes consequences. The First Amendment only applies to the government. Moreover, I assume you’re either in or were in the Marines. You realize that the freedoms you sought to uphold include things like… taking a knee, not respecting the flag and other forms of speech that you, and many others, may find repugnant.

        • Mike Barnes

NFL is an employer and has every right to tell their employees how they may behave on the job. They are representing the employer when on their dime. In the service you follow orders. In civilian gov’t employment you don’t violate the Hatch Act. And if your employer tells you serve cops even if you hate them and not offend (trigger, microagress, lol) the customers you do it. Your statement makes no sense, you speak out of both sides of your mouth because on one side you say the 1st Amendment only applies to the government, then you say the employees, the spoiled multi-millionaires playing for the NFL don’t have to follow their employer’s guidelines.
I don’t care what they do on their OWN TIME, they can push their false narratives all they want.

          • Joseph Alber

Precisely Devil Dog: the NFL Rulebook Operations Manual is quite specific:

The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.

During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.

Any questions come see me and I will lock your knees permanently.

          • saganhill

Fuck you. Take your flag and shove it up your ass.

          • Dan Borden

You take my flag and you will be another toothless welfare recipient.

          • saganhill

Well, then take the flag out of Joe’s ass and wipe your tears with it you fascist pig. Excuse me while I collect my 250K a year living off welfare and eat my ribeye steak while being chauffeured around my neighborhood.

          • Dan Borden

It’s too bad you don’t have the courage to speak like that in public. We know you are just another 90 IQ loser parroting what you read in the MSM. Enjoy your miserable existence.

          • saganhill

LMAO. Standard, conservative, dipshit reply from a moron with no argument who needs to be watered 3 times a month. Oh, btw, MSM has never stated what I just said fucktard. Tell me, when you get done crying over the flag and anthem, do you wash your KKK sheets and SS swastika and the flag in the same washing machine?

          • Dan Borden

You are a pathetic little imbecile. The MSM has been promoting your agenda for years. I can hand you twenty points on a Wechsler, give 5:2 and collect all day. Take your poorly-educated ass back to the liberal sandbox where you can play with the other drooling candyasses.

          • saganhill

LMAO, oh poor baby… You never did tell me. Does the color run when you wash your KKK sheets with your flag? Any man who has a NASCAR on their FB account is not educated. I’ve talked with assholes like you. The KKK has been promoting your racist agenda for a century. You keep talking IQ. An IQ of any score is not a prerequisite to be a conservative republican. You only need to be able to vote against your own best interest. Trump does love his uneducated voters. Go home and get your shine box motherfucker.

          • Dan Borden

Awwwww…..is the little candyass offended? Does all the aerodynamics and mechanical engineering associated with NASCAR leave you feeling stupid and inadequate? The solution to your woeful lack of enlightenment is education. You do not have to spend your entire life as a parasitic wanker.

          • saganhill

Now your just mocking me. You don’t have any personality so you have to steal other peoples attributes. However, I am surprised you used those big words but I’m sure you have no clue what they mean. Again, take your flag and anthem and shove it up your ass you fascist motherfucker.

          • Dan Borden

I’ve been mocking you for some time. It has taken your inadequate reading comprehension skills a while to grasp the concept. Now do as you were instructed and get an education, so it does not happen to you as frequently.

          • saganhill

No, you have taken my wit and copied it. You have no wit so you steal from the person you’re trying put down. You’re a torpid, uneducated racist, fascist who believes he is better than other people based on a flag and anthem. You actually believe people should stand for the flag and anthem. That right there shows how uneducated you are. I’m betting you think pizzagate was a real thing. Moron.

          • Dan Borden

Oh look, buttercup can use a thesaurus. It must really burn your neurotransmitters that you have to plagiarize my vocabulary. Its been fun verbally bitch-slapping your 90 IQ ignorance around, but productive people such as I must move onto more important undertakings. Have a wonderful life, loser.

          • Kelly James

People that talk like that in public usually end up on their ass looking up at the person they were just lipping off to. Many people will put up with it, I won’t.

          • Kelly James

Awwww, snowflake got his feelings hurt. If you don’t like things here, leave, go live elsewhere. We don’t need or want your whining ass here anyway.

          • Michael Stejskal

            ??????

          • saganhill

Ummm no they don’t have the right to tell players how to act. I had an employer try to tell me to get a haircut. I won the settlement.

          • Mike Barnes

My employer had the right to tell me to get a haircut.

          • Dana DeWitt

It was probably the best day of your bleak existence

          • Yeah and you can be an actress too if you listen to everything that Harvey Weinstein says to do… all kinds of gross sexual acts, but hey with your thinking.. he’s the boss and you can do it or leave! Wrong buddy, the players are free to do what they want. Republicans have created a false narrative that they are disrespecting our troops or dishonoring, etc.. It’s not even about that.. They are protesting the obvious police brutality of their people and in general the bully tactics of police. I wish the entire arena would take a knee, because this symbol is not some idol to worship.. It’s a symbol and it’s failing them, not giving the poor and foreigners a fair chance at the American dream. Buy$$ the way did you know the military buys the time, is basically advertising when they do anything with the NFL…

          • Mike Barnes

That’s so idiotic it’s not worth anybody’s time. An employer has the right to mandate your behavior on company time he doesn’t have the right to sexually harass. Monumental fail Analogy 101 u dufus.

        • theegreatrandini

Tel me 1 incident were a business was forced close because of their support for Obama’s Socialist views. How about the times when Conservatives when on a spree destroying others property. See the difference?

        • murphmobile

Consequences like death threats? Really? I mean, disagreement is one thing, but threats over a Facebook post? Ridiculous.

        • gorgegirl

What i can tell you is that it is against the law for the president, his cabinet, or congress to interfere with private businesses and their employees. By the calling out for the NFL to fire their players, Trump was interfering with private enterprise.

          • Michael Stejskal

Not when the NFL has taken billions of our taxpayer dollars to subsidize their stadiums. That makes the government, the NFL and We The People partners.

          • gorgegirl

Your city built the stadium with taxpayer money and leases it to a PRIVATE business.

      • Desert_Drake

There was an incident in Tucson during the Bush era when the then-owner of Roses and More expressed their anti-Bush views unambiguously on a marquee on the store. They drew the same kind of fire, losing considerable business and receiving threats. The owner sold the business, and new owners pledged not to be political. Threats and ugliness is wrong but it cuts both ways these days, especially in Tucson which has both liberal and conservatives in goodly numbers. Honestly, though, one has to wince at someone of a conservative bent going on about civility. Good grief, read Trump’s tweets with a tad more objectivity. The guy actively seeks to divide us and gin up the hostility. I see what happened to Cup It All in that context.

    • Pablo Seventytwo

Is a mainstream view posted on FB “that list of disgusting attitudes, to publicly embrace racism and corruption” as demonstrated by 62 million votes, Deplorable?
Deserving of punishment, threats & boycotts?
OK. We will monitor your “free thought” & hateful “free speech”. Are you please, ir comfortable with the Arizona Daily Star’s sportlights of FB posts to troll for High Tech lynchings?

    • tonyblunt

I hardly think their post can be called disgusting, racist or encouraging corruption. Read it first, it is totally pro-America.

      http://americanactionnews.com/articles/arizona-restaurant-forced-to-close-after-pro-trump-facebook-post#comment-3567268583

      • saganhill

Ummm, no, its fascist, and racist and totally un-American.

        • tonyblunt

How is it racist or fascist? – it was just common sense.

          • saganhill

Did you read it? It stated “in god we trust”, repealing the ACA, Drug screening for welfare recipients,, plus it was anti- science as they didn’t believe in climate change. So they are bigot, racist and anti-Science idiots. Plus they didn’t believe in late night host getting political yet they voted for and support a dumb ass conman, reality tv “D” list entertainer who is a celebrity. Common sense? Bullshit.

          • tonyblunt

I do not believe in a god, but respect others right to do so. Nothing else you quote is racist or bigoted. It is the cause of climate change that is up for discussion, not the fact of change itself. You are building straw men.

          • saganhill

You’re wrong. The very fact we have “in god we trust” on our money shows how bigoted we are. Climate change is not up for discussion any longer. We have 1000s of reams of data that prove it is real and is fact and humans are the cause of it. You are willfully being ignorant.

          • tonyblunt

I agree that “in god we trust” and “under god” should not have been inserted into our money or the pledge, however I do not agree that it is a sign of bigotry, only of ignorance and intolerance. Perhaps as you grow up you will become more nuanced. I knew you could not quote genuine examples of bigotry or racism, and while man may well contribute to climate change there is no evidence that it is significant compared to the natural forces acting upon our climate. (Which does not mean we should not try to clean up our act)

          • Kelly James

Yeah, and Y2K was going to break the world too right? Climate change my ass!!

          • Steve M

You’re not going to through to these Appalachian morons with at best, half a brain.

          • Kelly James

I’m all about drug screening for welfare recipients and random screening if / when they get it. If they are going to take my tax dollars and sit on their lazy asses, they are going to do with a clear head!

          • saganhill

So much hypocrisy and stupidity in one list.

        • Kelly James

You must be a snowflake. Who are the real fascists and racists in society today? It’s liberals who still can’t take it that Clinton lost, it’s ANTIFA, the BLM both of which are domestic terrorist organizations. Fascism and racism are nothing more than buzzwords you spill out as a response to anything that doesn’t fit your social norm. Snowflakes, liberals, ANTIFA, BLM are against law and order … sooner or later that will bite you in the ass and I be waiting with popcorn and a beer to watch. Keep your candy ass bullshit in your soon to disappear sanctuary cities … don’t bring it where you can’t back it up. Block my road, I’ll run your asses over, block my walking path, I knock you on your ass without a second thought. By the way, don’t use “un-American” in the same breath with fascist and racist … those are where we cross into un-American territory.

    • Kelly James

If you can’t handle a post on what someone’s beliefs based on their own values and not what your social idiocy dictates, you are an idiot!! Freedom of speech is a guaranteed right and if you don’t like it, do go there. You whiners are ridiculous. I can tell you this … leave your candy ass attitude where you are, don’t bring it here because it won’t be stood for – AT ALL! If it really does bother you that much, leave the country – go somewhere else and live. Maybe then you will get an appreciation for the freedoms you have compared to the real nastiness in the world.

  • Pistol Pete

And that’s why businesses shouldn’t make political posts on FB.

    I thought this was obvious.

  • Joseph Alber

Welcome to the new climate in Tucson, home of Antifa Fascists and Activists. Location-Location-Location… Five Points Market & Restaurants thrives down the road with anti-Islamophobe rhetoric’s, BLM protest signs on hand, etc… So it is OK in Tucson to be COP haters (BLM caused the death of at least 5 Dallas police officers) and 19 Muslims caused the deaths of 2977 Americans on September 11 and Christians are oppressed and slaughtered all over the World, but it is cool to be anti-Christian, anti-Police and anti-America in Tucson and especially at Five Points Market where they sponsor and brew hatred yet employ ONLY 1 African-American, Way to Go BLM Supporters… put your money where your mouth is first and then we can reasonably consider your ideologies. As far as I am concerned, Five Points Market was/is directly involved in domestic terrorism by oppressing Americans for expressing their VOICE on FB (mind you) while they elect to express their own VOICE in their Patrons’ FACE within their own establishment. Blasphemous and Outrageous. Rise Up Americans… don’t let these anti-American maggots control your destiny….!

  • saganhill

The owner has no clue the understanding of how our Constitutional laws work. How the owner had the smarts to actually have any education to open a business is comical.

  • Kelly James

I bet the same people bitching about the post are on their way to Starbucks to pick up their daily cup of overpriced coffee.

  • kerrryz

How is it that you characterize a post expressing support for our country and its president as “controversial”?

  • Michael Stejskal

    I supported their post 100%
