Snakes & Lattes — a board game cafe chain that got its start in Toronto — has officially moved into the spot that previously housed American Apparel at 988 E. University Blvd.

The cafe, coffee shop, and drinking spot that’s got board games galore opened its doors on Tuesday, April 20, and its current hours are 4 – 10 p.m. on Tuesday – Sunday. Next month, the hours of operation are expected to extend.

The new cafe, which is a play on words for Snakes and Ladders, opened its first U.S. location in Tempe back in 2018 and has since opened up another in Chicago. Tucson is the newest location and it should easily fit in on Main Gate Square.

The menu offers variants of coffee, cocktails, draft beer, and wine. Additionally, there’s an abundance of dining options, like burgers, wraps, mac and cheese, flatbread pizza, salads, and desserts.

One of the menu’s highlights includes The BĂşn — a noodle dish from Vietnam that’s got plenty of fresh herbs and a tasty dipping sauce.

“This is what Barack Obama had with Anthony Bourdain in Hanoi,” said Snakes & Lattes on Facebook. “We worked on the technique for the chicken for over a year; it’s custom butchered to maximize crispy chicken skin to meat ratio.”

Most of the Snakes & Lattes locations contain a collection of 1,000 to 3,000 different games to choose from while enjoying your beverage of choice. Once the site for the Tucson location is updated, there will be a game list available online in order to plan out the perfect board game battle with your friends.

Snakes & Lattes is located at 988 E. University Blvd. For more information, visit snakesandlattes.com or follow Snakes & Lattes on Instagram.
