Like celebrating your birthday in more than one household, National Doughnut Day happens twice a year, but it’s during different months. First up is Friday, June 3 (the other lands on November 5) and there are plenty of places to score yourself a sweet one.

Read our article “Foodie 15: Guide to sweet spots for doughnuts (or donuts, whatever).”

Additionally, Cal’s Bakeshop is providing doughnuts for a couple of local parties happening at downtown’s The Monica and over at Thunder Bacon Burger Co. on Fourth Avenue.

Did you know that folks in the U.S. eat about 10 billion doughnuts a year? That’s about 31 per person. So, if you haven’t eaten that many yet this year, here’s your chance. This can be you.

National Doughnut Day at The Monica

Beginning at noon, The Monica will be giving away free doughnuts from Cal’s Bakeshop while supplies last. If you’ve had any of the sweet treats from the local bakeshop, you’ll know that these will likely roll off the shelf quickly — consider showing up early.

For more information, follow The Monica on Facebook.

Donut Happy Hour at Thunder Bacon Burger Co.

Beginning at 5 p.m., there’s a Happy Hour goin’ on at the burger joint. All you need to do is order a cold beer (or one at room temperature if you let it sit long enough) and you’ll get a free doughnut from Cal’s Bakeshop.

Grab one of the daunting burgers while you’re there, too. You won’t regret it.
