Hello Bicycle & Cafe is closing its doors permanently after five years in business. The owners announced the news on Instagram on Sunday. However, local cyclists and coffee lovers still have a few weeks to visit the shop one last time.
The community hub offers both bicycle repair services and craft espresso. Consequently, the team plans to sunset the business in two distinct phases over the coming weeks.
Phased Closing Schedule
The cafe portion of the business will operate under regular hours through August 16. Meanwhile, the bicycle shop will remain open for normal business through August 23. Afterward, the owners will close the space to prepare for new owners.
"After 11 years in Seattle as Hello Bicycle, and 5 years in Tucson as Hello Bicycle & Cafe, we are closing our doors for good," the owners shared on Instagram. "Thank you to everyone who rode along with us, we couldn’t have done any of it without you."
Additionally, the owners teased an exciting future for the physical location on Midvale Park Road. They hinted that a new, exciting business will take over the space soon.
"We will then be closed as we begin the final process of cleaning up the space for the next owners (spoiler: they’re rad)," the team wrote. "Thank you again, to everyone in Tucson and Seattle who supported us over the years. We wouldn’t change a thing."
A Rich History Rooted in Childhood Friendship
Childhood friends Samuel Lettes, Jordan Lewis, and Marc Padilla built Hello Bicycle & Cafe around a shared vision. Lettes gained valuable experience working at the original Hello Bicycle shop in Seattle over a decade ago. At the same time, Lewis and Padilla operated a local tech support company in Tucson.
Eventually, the trio united to bring their dream business to life near The Loop. They selected the building at 3702 E. Hardy Dr. due to its proximity to popular spots like Tucson Hop Shop. Furthermore, they recognized a strong need for quality coffee along that section of the cycling path.
The team opened the bicycle shop first before officially launching the attached coffee bar on August 3, 2022. Additionally, they partnered with local vendors like Yellow Brick Coffee, Maya Tea, and Houlden's Rise Above. Consequently, the hybrid hub quickly built a loyal following among neighborhood cyclists and coffee enthusiasts.
