The restaurant is striving to help local students — one pepperoni at a time. The regional and family-owned pizza joint, Barro’s Pizza, is once again giving away $10,000 to one lucky resident in Arizona.
It’s been an annual event now for 10 years — the 2022 Arizona Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway — and it’s currently in full effect. Sure, Barro’s Pizza isn’t a local restaurant but it’s been in Arizona for more than 40 years and is stretching its arms out to the local community in Tucson for the event.
The prize money that’s rewarded to the student is meant to be used to help pay college tuition or any other related educational expenses that may pop up. They’ve been taking submissions since late September and for the owner, Ken Barro, it’s all about making the classroom experience a little easier.
“Our community is such an important part of who we are as a company,” said Barro. “We are honored each year to partner with Dr. Pepper to give away $10,000 to a local student that may be struggling to pay for school or the expenses that come with it. We look forward to this campaign each year, it means a lot to be able to help a student achieve their educational goals.”
As of 2022, Barro’s Pizza has helped hand out $95,000 to students in Arizona.
